Good morning Yuma, meet our Pet(s) of the Week ... Hilda and Buggs! Hilda and Buggs are 2 year old altered pit bull terriers that are bonded and well behaved. They are house trained, content to be together in the shelter and indifferent to cats. They interact well with other dogs in play groups and walk well on a leash. Hilda and Buggs would do best if they stayed together so if you adopt both of them the adoption fee is waived. Shelter ID #99968 and #99969.

All of our adoptable animals can be seen here. https://hsoyuma.com/adopt.html

Another example of a life-saving collaborative effort of this remarkable community we live in. When an area resident passed away, he left behind 6 dogs. People who knew the owner also knew the dogs. Most of them were pit bulls and people always remarked about how friendly and well cared for the dogs were. Still, rehoming pit bulls to appropriate homes is, at best, a daunting task when most shelters euthanize even the best of the breed when they run out of space. Everybody working on this project knew that only keeping them out of the shelters would have a happy ending. Neighbors stepped up to feed and care for the pack while we worked on other options. Kate and Gerry then gave them a port in the storm while the ones that needed to be, were spayed and neutered. Little by little we chipped away at the challenge. We are so happy to report that the last two were placed in forever homes. It is pretty amazing how people's political differences are never considered when an animal's welfare is at stake.

This guy cannot take a bad picture. Harley (previously Fitz) has settled in so nicely in his foster home after 4 months in the shelter. He is walking nicely on a leash and learning how to "place" while dinner is being prepared. (previously known as "get out of the kitchen Harley") Super good dog for any home without cats and chickens.

Life's lessons from a Dog. Be open to new experiences, be kind to everyone, don't complain, try your best, try to be happy despite things beyond your control, don't eat just anything. Hold out for the good stuff. This is how Lucky lived. All these things because one day it is just over. Saturday we placed Lucky into hospice foster. She met and quickly accepted her new family, she walked around, she cuddled on the couch, she ate good and then Saturday night she peacefully passed away without warning. We were hoping for at least a few months of the best life for her even with her health issues. It was not meant to be. Thanks to everyone who looked out for her. Penny, DJ and Lee, Mona and Jim and all the rest of her friends she made along the way. Some dogs just touch you. She was one of those.

Miss Molly Malone was well cared for most of her life. When her person died, Molly lived alone in the house with people coming over to feed her until Molly's human friends found us. She hit the jackpot when she went to live with Cathy V on her six fenced acres with deer, rabbits and lizards to chase. She flirted with her dog friend Joey and showed her appreciation everyday for her second life. She had not been herself for the last week or so and this morning she passed peacefully. Forever fostering is not for everyone. I am so grateful for the ones like Cathy V that step up and allow dogs like Molly to continue to live healthy happy lives to the end.

It was a great day for a poker run/pet parade. Perfect weather great turnout. Congratulations to Jimmy and Sandy Miller for the grand prize high hand (yes the very same Jimmy and Sandy and their three dogs). Also to Bea for the best costume with her weiner dog hot dog costume and honorable mention to just the cutest dogs ever in their costumes Gypsy and Sandy. Huge thanks to Dick and Jane and Gina and their crew for pulling this together. I just needed to show up and enjoy it.
