I love my super seniors.
Jefferson is about 16 years old now and is SHY, and I mean a shy little boy.
He prefers to have his face hidden at all times. Good thing it's on his client card from last time.
We just work together to keep him safe.
He is a brown patched tabby and white with beautiful green eyes.
He is tolerant and gets hissy when he is uncomortable.

💓Q & A!
How often should my cat's nails be trimmed?
Of course it depends on the cat.
Most cats, a 4-to-6-week trim is best.
They are still able to catch prey, climb trees and fight. Indoor kitties, only, are still able to leave marks on your hands, climb the cat tree and fight off toys.
Most cat owners do not inspect their cat's feet, paw pads and nails on a weekly/daily basis.
When the nails are trimmed, we look for abnormalities in the nail itself, the pads and the surrounding tissue.
If something out of the ordinary is found, it is documented with photos and noted on the client card and the owner is made aware.
Of course a story...
My cat grooming instructor found a small hard bump on the toe of one of her regular cats of 5 years. After documenting the abnormality, and full groom, she presented her findings to the owner. We are not vets and will not speculate, and vet appointment was suggested.
End of the story , it was an outward sign of what was going on inside. The cat had the first stages of cancer and received preventative and life prolonging treatments.

Senior cats, who are less active, may not be able to use a cat tree or scratching post. The nail will continue to grow, into a circle, until it penetrates the paw pad. Severe cases must be surgically removed and proper medical treatment until it is healed.

Please start kittens, and new additions, to handling. Expose them to noises, people and places. Get them used to the carrier and riding in a vehicle. This sets them up for success later.
The cat, the vet and the groomer would appreciate it. 💓
Prevention is better than tackling stress, anxiety and fear.
If you need help with any of this, DM me and let's find a solution to acclimating your kitten or cat to the adventures of life.

The Adair County 4-H Cat Project will be attending the CFA Cat Show this Saturday, February 8th. We will be leaving from Kirksville.
Surrounding 4-H members interested in joining us for the event, please text me to set this up.
We will have our own ambassador for the day and a group rate for gate fee.
Bring note taking materials, a name badge and must follow all 4-H protocols.
Car Pool may be available or offer. 4-H volunteers must be present if a parent is unable to attend.
We will be learning breeds, colors, patterns, and there is agility offered at this show. Bring prepared questions, be polite and we will go over how to address breeders and exhibitors and discuss show etiquette.
Bring a sack lunch. I am not sure how expensive or good the food may be onsite and snacks if desired for the travel. Pillow to nap on the way home.
It is only a 2 1/2 hour drive to Des Moines.
Let me know ASAP is you would like to attend this show for an opportunity to watch a real cat show.
Thank you.

The Adair County 4-H Cat Project had a complete tour of Unionville Vet Clinic in Unionville, Missouri. Our Youth Leader Adalyn Sevits was our lead for this event. Thank you, Adalyn.
Dr. Williams, and assistant Dylan, gave the members a tour of the reception area, each exam room, the huge cooler, microscopes with digital imagery, all equipment for the surgery room, pre-op and post-op, the dog facilities, the equine facilities and the cattery.
We were given a wonderful demonstration of a cat exam, including the vet check of the body from nose to tail, minus the temperature taking, and giving core vaccinations with Rabies vaccine to "Tank" the office cat. The kids have covered Vaccines, and this was very interesting to listen to Dr. Williams and watch the process.
Listening to Tank's heart was a bonus. He was not excited about being our demo cat for the tour. Thank you, Tank.
The Q & A was fascinating, and for those aspiring to become vet techs someday, MACC now has a tech program.
Thank you to Adalyn & Lydia Sevits, Emily & Kaylee Erwin, Emma Hull, and our guests Abby Capps and Brooke Caselman.
Thank you, to the parents who support the project and joined us for this fun project event.
Hold on to your hats, there's more to come!
