Puppy training✨
When you bring your puppy home this is what most of your training sessions will look like! 8 week old puppies get distracted easily and have short attention spans so engagement is the goal!
Here I am using cheese and a toy to reward her, along with also petting her and saying “Good girl!” when she makes a good choice. A puppy’s brain is like a sponge, so she is soaking up how to play with me, along with learning how to earn rewards and take treats gently.

These sweet babies are all out in the world now with their new families!♥️
It always amazes me how quickly 8 weeks goes by.🥹 It’s truly such an honor to love and care for these puppies while they are with us, knowing they will be making an extraordinary impact on each one of their families.🤍🐾

Biothane dog leash - Do you have one??
We love these dog leashes because they are durable and SUPER easy to clean.
For a puppy I like to start with a 3 or 4 foot leash so I can keep them close and engaged with me, and for adult dogs I like a 5 or 6 foot leash.🐾
Do you have a favorite leash? I’d love to know in the comments!

How do we know that the puppies are ready to start on soaked puppy food?
Once we can feel the puppies teeth have come in, which typically happens around 3 to 4 weeks old, and mama stops laying down to nurse. Pansy will still occasionally lay down, but more and more I am finding her going the drive-through route.
This means we are in the weaning process! Puppies are loving their soaked puppy food and becoming more independent as they spend some time just as puppies, and Pansy gets some time without the baby sharks.🤣
It’s a mobile milk bar now 🥛

EARLY SCENT INTRODUCTION✨ We start early sent introduction on day three with our puppies. This helps them develop their ability to identify different smells, which has a lot of benefits: • Improve their scenting ability – This is imperative if a dog ever goes into scent work, but it also is beneficial in developing their brain for later in life. • Improving confidence – Puppies develop confidence as they learn to identify and react to different scents.• Better cognitive abilities and reduced behavioral issues – Exposing puppies to new scents early on can help them be much more balanced as they grow into adult dogs later in life.🐾
Two weeks old and officially leaving the neonatal stage ✌️ While their ears are still sealed shut, their eyes are just beginning to open, and they will all be seeing by the beginning of next week. At this point, they really don’t have a fear mechanism instilled in them yet, so it’s a great time for Early Neurological Stimulation(ENS) and Early Scent Introduction(ESI). Mama Lucy is doing amazing at taking care of them, with lots of time for them at the milk bar and keeping them clean and warm. Over the next few weeks as they get their legs under them and are able to walk better they will become much more independent, but right now they still very much rely on Lucy to care for them.🐾 #rockhavenretrievers #labradorretrieverpuppies
A throwback to mornings at the bus stop with Miss Maxie.❤️
Lucy is pregnant!🐾We had an ultrasound last week and they confirmed that she is pregnant and both her and her puppies are doing great. She is due on Sunday, September 8th so we will hopefully have puppies in a week or so!💛🐾
