Daphne is the cutest little sassy lady 🎀
Daphne met some of my personal cats today. She will be living with my “seniors” for the rest of her time in foster with me, aka my older adult cats who are very welcoming to new cats. One of my other fosters, Bagheera, is also with that group and has done incredibly well. I’m sure Daphne will adjust quickly just as he did and be happy to make some new feline friends while waiting to find her forever home.
In just a little while, Daphne will be posted for adoption on my PetFinder. Want to put in an application? You can do so at tinyurl.com/bbbyadoptionapplication. I’ll drop the link for her posting below once it’s live.

Want to help support us and get a realistic idea of what a single week of vet bills can look like for us? Well, we spent $700 on vet bills this week and have more incoming on Monday 2/24. What were this week’s bills?
-Daphne’s first vaccines & FIV/FeLV test
-Scooby’s booster vaccines
-Gypsy’s repeat bloodwork + pathologist’s review of bloodwork
We are inundated with bills that our donations do not come even remotely close to covering. Every donation, no matter how big or small, means the world to us and our cats and also means we can continue rescuing more cats in need, of which Central Florida has many.
Please share and consider donating if possible. Every little bit helps. 💜🐈‍⬛

A Fig update!
Fig, our “feral” foster, is recovering well from her spay with 0 complications and enjoying her apartment. She loves looking out at all the activity and meows to other cats in greeting and just to be chatty. As for how she feels about people, she’s socially awkward— she wants so badly to interact, but she’s still scared and not fully trusting of me. Even still, she is coming around beautifully and giving me lots of slow blinks (a common way cats say they feel affection for you) to show she’s trying. She even rests her paw on the back of my hand when I reach in to feed her. 💜
Fig will not be released. The area she was in was not safe— nor is any area safe for feral cats— and she is showing clear potential to want to interact with people. How long that will take no one can say, but I’ve got a penchant for helping adult ferals learn it’s never too late to trust people and nothing but time. It’s all on your schedule, Figgy.

Donation corner!
Just some of the wet food from Kristen and Haven and lots of blankets and sheets from Alex. Not pictured is the toys, blanket, feeders, and cat bed from Alice, a woman who I’ve helped trap some injured ferals so they can be vetted.

Sorry for the lapse in updates; we’ve got lots to catch you up on!
On Monday (the 17th), Scooby and Daphne went back to the vet. Scooby for booster vaccines and Daphne for her first vaccines. Because of her emergency spay, everything else was delayed— no vaccines, no SNAP, no nothing. Since she’s nownfully recovered from her spay, we are now playing catch up. Luckily Daphne is an angel in a cat’s body and was the best behaved girl for her vaccines and mini blood draw for the snap. She is negative for FIV/FeLV and got her initial vaccines. Once she goes back for boosters in 3 weeks she’ll be ready for her forever home!
Scooby was a sweetheart and an angel for his booster vaccines. His 2 brothers get theirs next week— it just worked out that it was gonna be easier to bring Scooby along to this appointment and then do the other 2 next week when I’m back for another cat’s recheck.
Yesterday’s bill was $350. Want to contribute? Consider donating! Every cent helps!

Donation corner!
These blankets and towels were donated to us by a very kind woman on FB Marketplace. I saw she was giving away some household items/linens and asked if any could be earmarked for us. Not only did she give us an absolutely gigantic bag of stuff, but she has more we will be picking up soon!! As always, THANK YOU for your support. It is wanted, needed, and appreciated. 💜

ADOPTED!!
This is very belated, but Toad went to her forever home in December of 2024. Coincidentally, that home is also where she was raised. Because I’m keeping her. 😂
Keeping Toad was not something that was ever on the table, but as time went on I just couldn’t see myself ever letting her go. She showed a strong preference for me over other people and bonded with my heart cat, Jinx, from the get go. Separating them seemed out of the question, so I decided to keep her. That makes Toad my first foster fail in 3 years of running this rescue!

Scooby goes to the vet!
The other day I took Scooby in for a precautionary vet visit. Mainly, I was concerned because he had urinated outside the litter box twice and I was concerned he was developing a UTI or had some kind of residual inflammation from his neuter 2 weeks ago. He’s been acting totally fine, eating/drinking normal, and using the box normally aside from those 2 times but it’s always, always better to be safe than sorry.
We saw Dr. Hicks, the vet who has helped oversee the vast majority of my fosters over the last 3 years, and discussed options as well as concerns. A urinalysis showed no warning signs aside from high pH, which does create a fantastically healthy breeding ground for both bacteria and crystals. We decided to wait on any sort of aggressive treatment and start with increasing his hydration with wet food only (he was on wet/dry before), as much water as possible, and likely transitioning him and his brothers to a non-scrip urinary diet.
Scooby’s appointment was $150 I hadn’t planned for. Daphne’s pre-spay appointment at my vet was $350. Gypsy’s booster vaccines last week were $130. The list of unplanned/additional vet bills I’ve had this year is insane. And that’s not including Daphne’s $2.7K spay.
Getting my foster cats the best care possible is paramount, and it would be a lot easier to get it done with your help. Even $5 would be a step in the right direction. And, if you can’t help, please share.

Excuse the not so great photos, Gypsy didn’t want to stop trying to nurse on my land long enough for anything better 😅
Gypsy, our medical foster, went back to the vet this past Monday for her booster vaccines. She was an angel, no surprise. As for her overall health, we’re still somewhat in the dark. Her initial bloodwork showed signs of infection but no clear indicators where, and the urinalysis that followed showed white blood cells in her urine but no bacteria. She was treated with a round of aggressive antibiotics in the hope of knocking out any potential infections regardless of where they are, but we still don’t know why she’s thin. Or why she’s not gaining weight. We’ll recheck her bloodwork soon to see if we can get a better idea of how things are progressing in a few weeks.
In total, between what has been covered by donations and what hasn’t, Gypsy has cost just about $900 in vet bills. And that’s with our discounted rescue rates. That’s not including food, litter, and all the other little things that go into fostering her. But I hope that number gives you a bit of an idea as to what actually goes into financially caring for a medically complex cat like Gypsy.

Since everyone deserves their own introduction: meet Phantom!
I trapped Phantom and her brother just about a week ago. They are the last of the 6 Kissimmee Cats, which means we successfully took 6 cats (4 males, 2 females) out of that community to help slow the reproduction rate of feral cats in Osceola County. These cats will find safe, indoor homes and never want for anything ever again.
Phantom is a sweet and silly girl who grew up outside with her family— her 3 older brothers, her mom, and her brother from her litter. They would all 6 snuggle up together each night on the front porch of their caretaker. They were also terrorized by neighborhood cats who wanted to try and chase them off. Now that Phantom is inside, she is blossoming into the sweetest little girl who LOVES attention and is very curious about the world around her. She will be up for adoption alongside her brother once they are fully vetted (~1 month from now). They are roughly 3 months old.

Another eventful night of trapping đŸ«
I spent about 3 hours staking out the drop trap I borrowed from someone to try and catch Velcro, the 5-month-old kitten who has been alluding both her caretaker Madison and myself for weeks. Both Velcro and her mother are grey tabbies, which made knowing who was going to go under the drop trap and when to pull it even more difficult. But we both decided it was a gamble we needed to take.
So, when a grey tabby went under the trap and hesitated to eat
I pulled the rope and dropped the trap.
And we caught Fig, Velcro’s mother. Again. đŸ€ŠđŸŒâ€â™€ïž
This is the second time we have caught Fig, but this time I wasn’t able to convince myself to just let her go. Fig is feeder friendly at best, but she’s also young and has been in a high stress environment where she and her kittens were kicked out of their colony with nowhere to go besides a trash heap right between I4 and a busy inner-community road. Leaving her there just wasn’t something I could stomach, so Fig is our first intake of February 2025. Her future is somewhat uncertain, but we’ll get her vetted and keep her safe no matter what. And today we go back to catch her kitten. For real this time.
Thank you to Madison for getting me involved in trapping these cats and to Carey for being willing to tag along at the last minute for comedic relief. 💜

BUNSEN AND BEAKER ARE ADOPTED!!!!!!!
These 2 beautiful orange goofballs came to me in August of 2024 as a complete surprise. One minute I was driving to Kissimmee to pick up 1 sickly looking black cat, the next I was cramming 4 cats into my extra carriers and carting them all home with me wondering what I’d gotten myself into. Bunsen and Beaker along with their BFFs, Badger and Beetle, proved to be some of the absolute sweetest boys I’ve ever met in my whole entire life. They are snuggly, outgoing, playful, and just everything you’d ever want in cats. But you don’t have to take my word for it— here’s what 1/2 of their new parents, Olivia, has to say:

“We were looking for a trifecta of confident, playful, and cuddly (and weren’t sure it was possible). Two orange boys didn’t fit what we had in mind at all, but their online profiles painted such a clear picture of who they were. We reached out, and Elizabeth communicated about their personalities with detail that showed how much she had gotten to know them and wanted to make sure we/they were a good match. She was spot on, and they couldn’t be more perfect.

She promptly, patiently, and thoroughly answered all of the many questions we had. A minor health concern came up right as we were meeting them, and Elizabeth promptly got it seen. She was thoughtful enough to hold on to them through a follow-up to make sure they were at 100% and could adapt to a new home with no extra stresses. She cares so much about each of her cats getting the best fresh start to life they can.

Bunsen and Beaker settled right in in no time. We’re so glad the boys got to stay together, especially since they’re so bonded. We are thrilled to have them in our family and already can’t imagine our home without them.”

Happy trails, B Boys! I’m wishing you and your parents the absolute best. Meep meep đŸ«¶đŸ»

JANUARY RECAP:
I set my goals for this month low, but did my best to make them attainable without being *too* easy to reach.
1. 1 cat adopted. I actually had 2 adoptions this month! Those will be officially announced later today. 🐈🐈
2. 1 cat intake. I actually had 7 intakes this month, so I was a real overachiever in this category 😅
3. $100 in donations. This was a very, very low goal because— honestly— many months I get $0 in donations. I’ve got to be better about consistently showing what I’m doing to improve on that this year. But this month we received well over $1000 in donations between $$ put towards vet bills, cash donations, wishlist items, and other donations!! From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.
4. 3 social media posts/week. I think I achieved this or thereabouts with daily posts in the last 2ish weeks of the month. As someone who hates drawing attention to themselves, this is big for me. But there is still so much room for improvement!
And now for February

Swipe to see my February goals for the rescue. I’m still setting the bar “low”, but hoping to exceed all of these goals. Please help us do so by spreading the word!

Daphne was spayed just over a week ago and is recovering incredibly well. She doesn’t love being confined— a precaution I took because of the size of her incision and because she’s still unvaccinated— but she’s as sweet as can be and just loving having a warm, cozy bed to lay in. She’s the sweetest, sassiest little lady and I’m so excited to get the rest of her vetting done so she can find her forever home!
If you’d like to donate towards the $2.7K bill for Daphne’s emergency spay or her upcoming routine vetting (likely ~$300 in total), you can do so at Venmo @ bbbykittens or Zelle @ 301-938-9115. Any and all help is appreciated!

Donation corner!
Every donation, no matter how big or small, matters. Everything we don’t have to purchase means we’ll have more money to put towards future rescues. Thank you to a friend’s roommate for donating some rx urinary cat food (something I always end up needing) for me to keep on hand/give to someone else in need as well as some treats and tuna for trapping! Myself and the kitties appreciate it. 💜

“What does donation $$ get spent on? What kind of things do cat rescues need?”
Besides the obvious like food, litter, and vet bills, we buy a LOT of other stuff. Blankets, cat toys, cat beds, litter, p*e pads, more blankets
the list goes on. We raided Target yesterday for some new throw-sized blankets as a lot of ours have gotten trashed recently due to being too old/soiled to try to salvage. This shopping raid was made possible by donations from a recent adopter— post on that coming later today— and my personal contribution to restock on necessities. You can help lighten this load by donating products off our wishlist @ tinyurl.com/bbbyamazonwishlist or by donating $$ through Venmo @ bbbykittens or Zelle at 301-938-9115. Any and all donations are appreciated!! 💜💜💜

Better photos will come soon, but for now these two are SAFE!
Last night I took traps back to the Kissimmee Cats to start trying to get the last 2 kittens. After getting a much closer look at them, I realized they are MUCH younger than I thought and closer to 2.5-3.5 months old. That’s great news as it means they’ll socialize in a few days, but it also meant they were outside alone without Daphne (their mom) or any other buddies qand I needed to fix that asap. I was expecting it to take a few days for them to cooperate, but lo and behold we got both caught within the night!
The tabby boy went into the trap pretty much immediately, as typical for boys. 0 hesitation to get to food, risks be damned. The girl made us wait about 3 or so hours, but Mindi— the caretaker for this colony and the one who got me involved to help— sat and watched the trap until close to midnight when she finally went in.
Now these kittens are SAFE. They’ve been treated for fleas, worms, and habe a cozy bed and nice place to sleep and will never have to worry about being in danger again. And they’ve got spay appointments scheduled for next week!
