Happy Saturday!!

I always speak about the importance of place and its similarities to meditation. But how many of us dog trainers/owners actually practice doing nothing alongside our dog?

Most of the time before doing anything with our pets , we are in a rush to do it.

🐾 rushing back home on walks.

🐾 rushing to feed the dog because we are late to work.

🐾 rushing training results in order to lighten up on the training because you feel bad.

Those little steps are what training is about. they are the perfect moments to practice distractions, leash manners, recall and relationship building with your pup.

Before heading out for a walk today, I dare you to take your time BEFORE doing anything for your pup-
try doing half an hour of something you love or that will relax you. Whether that be reading a book, drinking coffee, listening to a podcast or doing nothing-be sure to be self aware of how you are feeling at that very moment before starting a task and apply that feeling every-time.

How we think training is VS how it actually is.

Most dog trainers/owners get their training info online or on social media because the best way to get into most things, is to copy them. So, we think “this is what the process should look like” & tend to forget that social media only shares highlights. You aren’t always going to get to see the really hard days or the really good day. Most Trainers/ owners will post clear steps to follow in their videos online, but often leave out the setbacks that might occur. Training is not linear. There ups, downs, and in between, moments that should not define how you proceed your training. progress is progress. ❤️

Welcome Myra the Patterdale!! She is the newest member to Neighborwoof. She needed a dog walker because Myra here has had 2 hernia surgeries and her owners make it important to give her daily exercise. Sometimes she needs a little more help walking but it doesn’t stop her from through it herself into a pile of sticks and going on long hikes. Oh! And she loves to cuddle!!! I always get the most cuddly dogs🤗

This took me 5x to upload. 😭😭 Though dog parks can be beneficial when used the right way like for training, exposure & decompression walks, I wouldn’t recommend them to the average owner. Here are a few reasons why & what I recommend you do instead: 🐶 Unfavorable conditions 👉🏼 You don’t really know what kind of environment youre getting: unattended dogs, a**hole dogs, sick dogs, unleashed dogs, reactive dogs, happy-go lucky dogs, “friendly” dogs(you get the point)—If you MUST go to a dog park, go when there are as little dogs as possible (usually in the morning). This will make walking, training & playing easier and stress-free. 🐶 Great for exposure NOT socialization 👉🏼A lot of owners want to give their dogs the experience of interacting with other dogs, or to “socialize”. This leads to the misconception that your dogs needs to be social and love every animal /person they meet. This simply isn’t true. Its more important to build confidence and instill a calm mindset to new environments & people, especially puppies. 🐶Uncomfortable situations 👉🏼At dog parks, it’s very common to see and experience dogs run up to strangers, overly-aroused, barking and just being plain rude. If you don’t work on recall, how to be around unruly dogs, body language and play styles, you’ll find yourself struggling in those common situations. I can agree that dog parks have the potential to be awesome but that’s trusting that owners are supervising their leashed dogs and know what they’re doing. Dog parks are best fit for exposure training, and decompression walks (when relatively empty).
