๐Ÿพ December is Cat Lovers Month, a purrfect time to highlight the unique needs of our feline companions. From nutrition to behavior, cats have specific requirements for optimal health. Here are some things to watch for:
Dental Disease โ€” Cats frequently suffer from gum disease, tooth decay, and oral infections. Symptoms include bad breath, drooling, difficulty eating, and pawing at the mouth.
Obesity โ€” Overweight cats are at risk for diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, and a shorter lifespan. Weight gain often results from overeating and lack of exercise.
Kidney Disease โ€” Chronic kidney disease is common in older cats, leading to increased thirst, frequent urination, weight loss, and poor coat condition.

Up next is to get to know the doctors of Knightdale Animal Hospital. First up we have Dr. Elizabeth Tucker!

Dr. Tucker is originally from Tuscaloosa, AL. She earned her undergraduate degree in Spanish at Rhodes College in 2021 then trekked to the desert to receive her DVM degree from the University Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine in 2024. After completing an externship here as a vet student, she rejoined Knightdale Animal Hospital after graduation as a full-time doctor. She has a special interest in soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, and end-of-life care. She is passionate about providing a low-stress environment for her patients and a collaborative space for her clients.

In her free time, Dr. Tucker enjoys spending time with friends, practicing Brazilian jiu jitsu, and rock climbing. She loves to be out and about around the Triangle going to concerts, hiking, and checking out the local craft markets and bookstores.
