It's Friday with Fiona, that's ME! Apparently I’m high maintenance and have expensive taste so the humans are trying out a premade dog cookie mix. I'm helping to bake and taste test of course - I have to be sure they don't skimp on the yummy bits. I'll also be reporting all of my findings to Jennie so she doesn't miss out either. That girl has some serious FOMO issues. Oops, sorry - the human says I can't say things like that outloud. Anyway, I hope your Friday is as amazing as I am!

Yay 😎 Hot days, fireflies, and the lingering scent of skunk 🦨 in the evening air - Yikes!

The Bayleigh Carroway family have had some - not to be repeated, fingers crossed - experiences with that unfortunate animal's effects.
As you and your spend more time outside the possibilities of a meeting occurring may increase.

If the unfortunate happens we can recommend the DIY method described on this page.

(A quick note from Emily: do not wet your dog down prior to using the DIY recipe)

Happy skunk free summer time to all! 🐾

Don't panic, but act quickly if you want to remove skunk smell from a dog who has been sprayed. A few quick steps can help get rid of the skunk spray.

Hello Bayleigh Carroway friends and family, it's FIONA.

According to the thumb enabled assistant can be hard; not anymore. Because everything's better with ME in it. Here are some photos of me to help make this Monday the best one ever. ❤️

We recently asked Fiona and Jennie for their honest review of Veggiedent chews - these are the same chews that are sent home in our puppy packs. They didn't have much to say as they were busy chomping away at their "treats." When they came up for a breath - which was much fresher and ✨cleaner✨ then when they started - they gave Veggiedent two🐾 paws up.

We of course don't tell them they are veterinarian recommended (thanks Dr. Ronnie Meer), have the seal of approval from the Veterinary Oral Health Council, and are part of a good oral hygiene routine.

note: Fiona and Jennie received no 💸monetary reward for their honest review and neither did the Bayleigh Carroway team.

Does your Welsh Terrier struggle to catch?

Until now I would say the Bailey Carroway team has had a less than 1% success rate in the "will catch things flying thought the air for fun" department. [The time GCH. Shaireab's Bayleigh Wolverine - Logan grabbed a 🐦bird, mid-flight, from the air doesn't really count.]

Until now! Fiona's on 🔥

She's not 100% accurate yet, but as long as there are snacks involved she's willing to give it a try. Welsh Terriers are always willing to give it their all.

Remember when we asked you to “guess who?” Well, we want to introduce you to Zack and Image! Zack is a junior handler and Image is the perfect dog to help this young handler hone his craft.

Congratulations to this team! We hope to see big things from them.

And that's a wrap on Jennie's week. She wants you to know she read every well wish ya'll left for her and is so thankful for the love.

We're grateful to everyone for sharing this crazy big FOURTEEN year journey with our girl. Here's to another revolution around the ☀️sun☀️!

Love from Jennie and the Bayleigh Carroway team.

p.s. Fiona here, happy birthday to my roommate Jennie, thanks for the cake! I'll be back next week with more ME.

The day is here!🎂

🎉Happy Birthday to the Queen - Jennie!🎉

Keith shares her favorite Jennie story as we lead up to the party. With dramatic flourishes added at Fiona's request! (she's felt left out this week and wants to help)

Jennie, Luiz, and Keith were traveling the U.S. dog show circuit together chasing the win that would break the record held by Ch. Anasazi Annie Oakley.

Picture it. January 17, 2015. Iowa. It was cold outside but inside the show ring things were heating up! Lorraine Boutwell was judging the BIS ring and the tension was thick. Judge Boutwell had awarded Jennie her first BIG best in show win earlier in her career - could Jennie do it again?

Of course this team is lightening and YES they did it again. Cheers could be heard ringing throughout the arena. This little Welsh was on fire. (no Fiona, not literally)

Thank you to the Bayleigh Carroway family for celebrating this week of Jennie with us and to all who wished her well, she says thank you 💝

It’s and day No.3 of Jennie's Birthday week.

According to Jennie it's the simple things in life that spark joy.

For our girl it's eating cookies, getting up to shenanigans, chasing chipmunks, and taking long naps. Jennie hopes that your Welsh Terrier friend brings you as much joy as these things bring to her. 💖❤️

Day No. 2 of Jennies Birthday week brings with it this Jennie approved poll.

Does your Welshie like to:
Drink?
Dunk?
All of the above depending on their mood and/or the temperature of their beard?

Did you know that your furry friend can get sunburned?
Did you know the suns rays can reflect upwards from sidewalks, sand, water, or snow and toast those tummies!

Areas on your Welsh Terrier without hair or where hair is sparse may be prone to burning.

The best thing you can do is to avoid taking your Welshie outside during the hottest parts if the day, but if you're going to be spending the day on the water or at the beach make sure they have a shady spot to escape the sun or try a dog-safe sunscreen.

The humans of the Bailey Carroway team live and breath dogs and dog shows. But we can also laugh at ourselves and the eccentricities of "dog show people." Which is why we want to share this installment of the Good Dog column. The stories in this column usually have us reaching for tissues, but this one had us laughing out loud.

Today's post is about pet insurance.

Unless you're able to set aside significant $$$$ for your Welshies care, a pet insurance plan may be your best bet to help offset veterinary costs.

Policies should tell you about coverage limits so be sure you get a copy, read it, and understand it before you sign. Always ask for clarification if there is something you don't understand.

Watch for listed exclusions (services the insurance company won't cover). Make sure they are spelled out clearly and if you have questions, make sure you get an answer before you go any further

Does the policy have bilateral exclusions? If your dog has cataract surgery in one eye and the other eye becomes cloudy, is it covered?

Most policies will not cover preventable diseases. [Your dog gets rabies because you didn't vaccinate them.]
Congenital diseases are often not covered and may even be listed by breed. [as an example- brachycephalic airway syndrome in french bulldogs]

Your vet may advise you to make sure your policy covers prescription medications, which can be very expansive and may be needed for the lifetime of your dog. But that you don't need to worry about hip dysplasia because your dog doesn't have it.

Be sure you look into available riders. You may want to purchase one for dental care. [A dental with a tooth extraction can easily become a thousand dollar charge.]

When you're shopping around for a plan be aware of policy caps or limits. This is the maximum that an insurer is willing to pay overall. If you reach that limit your animal is no longer covered. (This can be until the policy renews, but that isn't always the case.)
Also understand that some policies may have a lifetime limit - the maximum that will be paid out for the dog.

Look for plans that offer continuous coverage and watch out for plans that may consider a prior illness no longer eligible for coverage when your policy renews.

Consider an unlimited policy. It will cost more money but bring a greater piece of mind.

Avoid "accident only" policies. According to vets an illness is much more likely to occur than an accident.

Be sure any policy you purchase doesn't cut off once your dog reaches a particular age.

Try contacting your current insurance companies and see if any of them offer or partner with pet insurance companies. See if your job offers any pet insurance perks and be sure to check with AAA, AARP, and other organizations which may offer discounts on pet insurance.

Terms you may see in a plan.

wellness plans - most base plans do not cover vaccinations or exams, but may sell a wellness rider.

Deductible - how much you pay towards your dogs covered vet bills before the insurance will kick in. Usually a higher deductible will lower your premium (more money out of your pocket before insurance takes over) while lower deductibles will result in higher premiums (less money out of your pocket before insurance takes over).

Reimbursement percentage - you may see 70%, 90%, or even 100% reimbursement of approved vet fees. This means that after you pay your deductible the company will then pay that percentage of your remaining bill.

Fiona kindly agreed to let us post her before and after dental cleaning photos. 😎 And she made me promise to let you know that dental health is a very important part of your Welshies overall health.

Did you know that periodontal disease is the most common dental condition in dogs and that by the time your Welshie is 3 years old, he or she may very likely have some early evidence of periodontal disease.

Early detection and treatment are critical, because advanced periodontal disease can lead to complications and pain.

Regular brushing is the most effective thing you can do to keep their teeth healthy, but we know that isn't always possible. Luckily the VOHC (Veterinary Oral Health Council) has a list of products that are proven to show significant benefits for your pups dental health.

Their list includes foods, treats, chews, water additives, and wipes that have their seal of approval. https://vohc.org/accepted-products/

The Bayleigh Carroway team extends its thanks to Teri from Vellus Products for judging our Scrub-A-Dub-Dub contest and to all of our friends and family who shared a photo/video of their beautiful Welshies living their best lives - thank you!

Congratulations to Missi, J, and Lisa Vander Hoek who were chosen as our winers. Teri commented on the photo saying, "It was a hard decision as they are all so cute. It came down to the video and the photo with the baby in the bath. I chose the photo with the baby as it really spoke to me about how much love a dog can bring to a family and how they can be such a special part of our everyday life."

Send us a DM when you have an opportunity and we'll coordinate shipping!
