[Transcript] Thank you for joining us on the Knoxville Center of the Deaf channel. I’m Lara Garfinkel.
I’d like to take this opportunity to share what’s been happening at KCD.
This workshop focused on how we can care for our loved ones—whether they are a spouse, partner, parent, sibling, or even a friend. It taught us how to prepare for their needs and how to be ready for our own in the future. It was a wonderful and informative session. If you'd like to learn more, please visit their website at www.aarp.org.
Last Thursday, Melissa from MELMIRA gave a workshop called 'Why Care.' This workshop taught us how to become an ally and an activist. For example, if a workshop is being held and doesn’t have the appropriate speaker, we should encourage organizers to promote the right speaker for the session, rather than proceeding with an inappropriate one. It was a wonderful workshop, and I look forward to attending more of her sessions. I encourage you to do the same!
Last Friday, TODB (Tennessee Organization of the DeafBlind) held a statewide meeting, and I had the opportunity to participate. It was a great chance to connect with other networkers, and I look forward to working together in solidarity to better serve the DeafBlind community across Tennessee. I'm excited to see what KCD can contribute to this effort.
As you know, this week is Thanksgiving. Our office will be closed on Thursday and Friday. If you need SSP or interpreting services, please request them as soon as possible. We want our KCD staff and board members to spend time with their friends and/or family during this special time.
Now, looking ahead to the month of December, we
