Knox PAWS

Knox PAWS Knoxville-Knox County CAC Office on Aging's Knox PAWS (Placing Animals With Seniors) program matches qualifying seniors with homeless, adoptable animals.

Knox PAWS (Placing Animals With Seniors) matches eligible seniors with adoptable pets. Research indicates that pets improve seniors’ physical, emotional, and mental health. The Knox PAWS program works with area animal shelters to match senior pets with senior citizens. Office on Aging’s staff match income-eligible seniors with adoptable older pets. Program participants must be 60 years of age or o

lder, residents of Knox County, income-eligible, and live independently in a pet-friendly environment. Pets adopted by Knox PAWS participants are provided with continued veterinary exams, vaccinations, heartworm/flea prevention, and other pet supplies or services as needed. The Feed-A-Pet program is for seniors that already own pets, but struggle to buy food. The program is a partnership between the Office on Aging and The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine.

You wouldn't deny this pretty girl a treat, would you? While you're out getting Halloween candy at the last minute, throw in a small bag or a case of cat food! Helping Knox PAWS and Feed-A-Pet doesn't have to be expensive. Just like Halloween candy - if we all give a little, we end up with a lot!

We celebrate the people who first called this land home and remember the struggles and tragedies they endured. We honor their place in and contributions to this nation. We acknowledge the land on which we work is the territory of the Miccosukee, East Cherokee, and Yuchi peoples. Do you ever wonder why Knox PAWS is always asking for donations? It's because we serve 180 animals each month, with more on a waiting list. We only receive about half of the donations we need every month. Without Knox PAWS and Feed-a-Pet, our clients wouldn't be able to have a companion animal due to the financial barrier. We are always looking for grants and other sources of funding, but for now, your support is vital!

Thanks so much AJCC Preschool

We are sending a BIG HUG and GREAT BIG THANKS to the Knoxville Jewish Alliance Preschool at AJCC for donating $500 worth of pet food and supplies! One of the most important teachings at the AJCC is “peer relationships, and socially responsible values”… We think the school is doing a wonderful job of teaching their youth these qualities!
