FINALLY LOCATED AN INDOOR DOG TRAINING FACILITY IN NASHVILLE who offers group classes. Nashville Training Club is always filled within a few hours when they open up their classes and I can never get in. I have been so spoiled living in Knoxville having Wendy Kouns Master Trainer and then Classes in West Knoxville upstairs at Concord Vet; awesome trainer there. I found this place just in time to start classes Wednesday evening with Juno. Better Family Dog Manners/Canine Good Citizen Class. We are just finishing Beginner Obedience at Pet Smart which has been OK but would like something with a little more rigorous standards. Training really helps you and your dog bond and it keeps the dog from being bored.

This class prepares you and your dog for the 10 individual steps that make up the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen exam which include:

1. Accepting a friendly stranger

2. Sitting politely for petting

3. Appearance and grooming

4. Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)

5. Walking through a crowd

6. Sit and Down on cue and Staying in place

7. Coming when called

8. Reaction to another dog

9. Reaction to distraction

10. Supervised separation

Dogs who pass the CGC test can earn a certificate and the official AKC CGC title. The CGC certification for resident dogs is beginning to be required by an increasing number of apartment and condo communities.
