February Star Sanctuary & Adoptions

February Star Sanctuary & Adoptions February Star Sanctuary rescues, rehabilitates and provides a refuge cats and horses in need.

The mission of February Star Sanctuary is to rescue, rehabilitate and provide a permanent refuge to cats and horses in need. We help the community through outreach programs to help children develop compassion for rescue animals at a early age. Teaching our children to respect and protect even the smallest among us is one of the most important life lessons we can pass on. Children and animals are t

he most vulnerable members of society, and abuse to both groups is on the rise. Our goals at the Sanctuary are to give the unwanted a home and to teach children compassion. We aim to build a generation of animal advocates one child at a time.

With winter we have more bills. Several cats had to go the vet for upper respiratory issues in January. For the horses lots more hay needs to be put out! Hay is expensive 😆
In general winter is a costly time. In honor of Spring coming soon, we wanted to do a fundraiser to help cover some of these extra costs. The easiest way is through our website
https://februarystarsanctuary.com/
Thank you all and let’s hurry up Spring!! it’s like 70 days and counting, right 😂😂
Also everybody that donates will be put into a raffle for one of our new February Star Hoodie.

Lookout, there's a handsome grey at the sanctuary! 🤍 😍 Leo arrived just after new year's day and has already made a big impact on us. ✨️ He's a spirited 10 year old with lots of potential. Leo used to be a truly amazing jumper, but unfortunately, he suffered an injury before arriving at our sanctuary. He's currently being evaluated by our trainer and has already been cleared for . 🐎 We expect him to need rehabilitation for at least 5 months and will keep his journey updated, including career prospects and a potential return to jumping. If you think you'd like to be part of Leo's journey, fill out our adoption inquiry form:📲 https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18xUsJlZzlMsxP9mir40YNE2AiwYMy3qqg9EGa7awxw4

It’s been cold… really, really cold. ☃️ Which also means it’s been snowing. Lots and lots of snowing. ❄️ Did you know that there are some breeds of horses that actually do well in extreme cold weather? The Yakutian horse is a special breed, native to Siberia, that has been surviving in harsh cold weather for over 800 years. 🐴 With a sturdy build, thick mane and coat that can range from 8 to 15 centimeters thick, they survive without shelter, in temperatures as low as -94 degrees Fahrenheit, for up to 8 months of winter each year. 😮 Averaging around 13 hands in size, their metabolism adjusts based on the season by accumulating large reserves of fat before winter and slowing their metabolic rate throughout winter. During the extreme cold, they reduce the volume of their blood circulation to avoid frostbite and have an increased production of anti-freezing compounds, known as cryoprotectants. horses also have an innate talent that allows them to locate and graze on vegetation that has been covered by dense snow. 🌱 In addition to their amazing ability to adapt to extreme weather, they’re also pretty darn cute! 😍

We have many wonderful volunteers at our sanctuary and today, we’d like to take the time to introduce one of them to our generous supporters. Meet Jessica Alder! 🥰 Jessica is married with 3 dogs, Jacskon, Levi and Bentley and also a volunteer at a local firehouse. 🐕 She has a passion for all animals, which started at an early age when she would visit a friend’s farm to help feed their horses. Jessica and her husband sponsor multiple at our sanctuary, most recently Thunder and Rex. 🐴 Her and her husband have been volunteers for over a year now and feel it’s a great way to escape reality and enjoy the peace that being around animals can bring. One of the perks Jessica enjoys most is the love she feels from the horses here. 💞 As a volunteer and sponsor, along with the awesome assistance of Addy, Jessica also enjoys being able to ride some of our rideable horses, such as Simon. 🏇 We sincerely thank Jessica for all her help! 🎉

Last night at 10:38 pm. We finally caught who keeps removing the heater. Hazel busted in the action…😂 today it’s getting zip tied to the fence, so it stays in the trough. Nobody likes a frozen water trough.
