Ratty Rats

Hey, everyone, Jen here! Things have been wild these past few months, but I just wanted to drop a quick update. ❤️

We’ve had some smaller litters lately, and while we do provide pet rats to our region, our focus is and always has been to improve our lines with every generation!

We have quite a lengthy waiting list, and while we are working our way through it as well as we can, there just never seems to be enough rats to catch up with how many incredible new adopters we add to our list daily.

We have some from our most recent litter that will be ready soon, and we will be reaching out to those at the top of our waiting list over the next few days with what is available. 🐀

Merlin and Mordred are always so excited to go to work with me. I'm excited to pair these two with some females. You can see the desperation of the 2 min I had the door closed in the whole day. 😂

We need some female energy up in this house though. My momma's, keep giving us a surplus of boys. We need girls as much as y'all do 😅😂.

I cannot express enough how heartwarming it is to see the rat community make such an impact. This is the stuff we live for!! (And yes that Astaroche, is yours truly. 😆)

We have not only made an artists week we have gained another wonderful way to show our love of rats.

Feel free to share this since it's not appropriate for most rat groups. (They don't want the groups littered with sales posts. Completely understandable.) This has no monetary benefit or connection to us. I just very much appreciated this interaction and try to support anyone kind enough to understand our love of rats.

Something you won't see on our page very often. Our boy Captain Kuro with our girl Chise. Of course, they are together with intent to breed but we often get questions about whether or not your boys and girls can safely meet without babies happening.

In short, no. It's really never safe unless you want babies or one or both rats are spayed/neutered. (Please do not breed irresponsibly).

Example: These pictures were taken seconds after the deed, which was done seconds after I set them both down and then an uncounted amount of times after bc we try to have decency here 😅 🤣

Regardless, we are excited for a new Marten litter as well as furthering our Harley line and Roane.

Excuse the floor as they are Brats and were running around with broccoli and chewing it of course.

Just a day with these sweet boys. The two black and white hooded rescue boys are in this video so you can see how sweet they are. They don't have to go together btw.

But this is why I prefer to rat proof a room to spend time with them in. So much love and cuddles. 💗

Their adoption fees are discounted since they are not from our main line.

💝 Valentines Day Surprise! 💝

Stay tuned as we will be uploading a few posts of rats ready for adoptions.

They are all males as we are out of females. We also have some exciting news about the Rattery's latest accomplishments. We may be bad at social media but we aren't bad at rat life haha.

People ask us often about free roam time and what kinds of things they can get for their rats to play with outside of the cage.

This is our free roam set up. Perfectly crafted by my niece. (She does such a good job with rat stuff ❤️). Doll houses and kids toy sets are pretty cool items to find used and repurpose for the rattos. They have so much fun!!

(Side note, I promise we will be responding to messages soon!)

Today we make another sad post for the Ratty Rats family.

Many know that I (Asta) and my Husband started Ratty Rats with our first litters of rats and traveled the country with them for a while. Later my sister (Annie) fell in love with rats and joined us in our Rattery journey. We made a beautiful line of rats together. After our brother married we added in our sister-in-law (Jen) and the three of us spearheaded the Ratty Rats Rattery while our husband's were our greatest support.

You all also know we dropped one breeder this year... Annie wasn't well. There were many issues and complications because of health issues that we couldn't combat. The rats and our standard has suffered because of it so the hard choice was made. Not as a "punishment" but because we saw the struggle, we wanted her to take time to focus on her health.

Unfortunately her fight is now over. A Rat Momma, Sister, and Friend has left this world for better things. We hope that her babies guided her and she is spending eternity with their snuggles and love.

Happy first of October everyone! Babies are growing just fine! We have had issues getting our other two litters out but hopefully soon we will see more babies. Had to adjust our home life a bit. Things are looking up and we are super excited for Spooky season! Soot Sprite says she's ready for Halloween!

Rat Facts✨
kind of like humans, rats often give in to peer pressure. They can feel the need to conform, they will do whatever their peers do. It can be fun to watch pet rats mimicking each other’s behaviors. Keep that in mind when you have a rat friend acting up!

Some possibly Dangerous foods are:

APPLE SEEDS-Have a small amount of cyanide in them.

BEET TOPS-Have high levels of oxalates in them..

CARBONATED DRINKS- RATS can't burp! Don't

RHUBARB-Contains toxic amounts of oxalates.

MANGO- Contains d-limonene.

Oxalates can cause urinary tract problems and stones in kidneys and bladder.
D-limonene can cause kidney cancer in males.

We have babies! ❤️ In the past two days, Miss Saussy and Miss Alice both had their litters and now we have 19 wiggly lil jelly beans!

There are still more pairings in progress as well. This has been such a busy year for us and we are so excited for these pairings and ones we have planned in the future! These litters will be ready for adoption in 7 weeks! 🐀🎉

I planned for photos this morning, but miss Alice has bedded down in her nest and won’t budge so this is the best we got. She’s roughly the size of the Goodyear blimp and is ready to pop! 🥰🐀

What makes our rats so great?

Today our boy, Zoro, came to see me from his adopted home after being born at my 2nd breeders house. The adopter is our bestie and we are using this amazing stud to breed for these current upcoming litters. ❤️

This is his first time at my workplace which has lots of machine sounds and odd smells. This is his first day with just me ever, but his parents did come from me.

We just learned how to give high fives and being just the most adorable squish ever. ❤️. Here in this unfamiliar place just as comfortable as can be.

That's what makes us different. We want our rats to live happy lives. They are just crazy friendly and sweet. Which is why temperament is not even a thought anymore for us. We can focus on health. ❤️

The long-haired rat (Rattus villosissimus), is a species of rodent in the family Muridae which is native to Australia. The long-haired rat is well known for its population eruptions over vast areas of Australia which is the basis of its alternative common name, the plague rat. Most of the research on the long-haired rat has been conducted during times of massive population fluctuations and therefore little is known about their biology in a non-eruptive period.
