My name is Avery and for the past 15+years, I have had the best job in the world: pet-sitter! I am a local pet-sitter who services the greater Knoxville area.

I have experience with dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters and birds, but love all animals! I have the capability to pet/house sit for extended periods, such as when your family goes on vacation, or I can do quick visits during the day if your fur babies need to be let out or given something to eat!

Dolly, Bleu, Dexter and Duncan have been so good this week! This past week can be so hard on pets with all of the fireworks!😖 I hope your all’s pets did okay with them!
Putting on some music or a movie, doling out some treats and cuddling on the couch definitely helped most of the pets I watched—and some weren’t even fazed!

So many sweet dogs and cats! I love how I am able to catch them smiling in pictures—usually after a nice walk or if the word “treat” has been mentioned!🤣

Teaching dogs to shake since 1990 something.🤣👏🏻
Loudon is SO smart. Puppies are great at learning tricks and are like little sponges—they soak it all up!🧽
We worked on learning to shake today.
Here are some quick tips for teaching dogs (new or old) tricks!👇🏻
1. Puppies are very treat motivated, so reward them when/as they get their tricks down!
2. Speak calmly and in a slow voice. It also helps to use clear commands that are 1-2 words starting out!
3. Try working in 5-10 minute spurts. Puppies are constantly exploring and there are many stimulants that can distract them. When you see their interest waning, end on a high note with praise and a treat.
4. Repeat as necessary! Repetition helps puppies to learn!

All these pets are so sweet and the perfect duos! It’s so funny to me how when I watch sets of two pets, they usually have such distinct and different personalities! All of these guys and girls are big cuddlers though and love their playtime too!🥰

Boone now has a sweet sister, Max, but before that, when he lived close to downtown, we would go on walks all around Market Square, across the Gay Street bridge and to one of his favorite places: where he would pick out a toy!❤️🏙️ On this particular day, he picked out a unicorn!🤣🦄

The first picture though is actually from when I was on a vacation in Palm Beach, FL a few years ago!🌴The owner of the we were staying at had this sweet dog.(kind of reminded me of the sheepdog from The Little Mermaid 🧜♀️ 🤣) Even on my travels, pets find me!🐾
I wanted to stress in today’s post though how IMPORTANT it is to still take those vacations and trips as a fulltime petsitter and business owner. ✈️ I received news of a fellow petsitter’s death this morning and to say she was a pillar in our local community would be an understatement.😔
We never know if we are promised tomorrow, as harsh as that sounds. And it can be so easy to care for everyone else until our own tank hits empty. If there’s anything I want you to know, it is this: Work hard on loving those pets and clients you have, but please, please, please—don’t forget to love and care for yourself as well.❤️
I have a much needed vacation planned soon and can’t wait to spend some time with my husband. I might share some of that with you all here, even though it isn’t technically “petsitting content”, but I think it is important that I do so, as a reminder that we all need breaks within the petsitting community too.🐾
