As a Hunter and outdoor enthusiast I truly have no party. Democrats want to take away certain hunts and scientific wildlife management and republicans are dead set on getting rid of public lands and deregulating all protections that have enabled us to have wildlife. Both threats are real, currently in Colorado you need to vote Republican and in Utah you have to vote democrat if you value hunting, wildlife and most of all THE OPPORTUNITY to go do those things in the first place.

But on a greater scale Project 2025 is absolutely terrifying to me as a Hunter. And it should be to any Hunter.

Do you use a stand when you’re dove or duck hunting?

Unless I’m walking far into public land I always try to!

I’ve found it keeps the dogs cooler in hot weather as it allows airflow on their bellies. And it allows them to stay out of the water and dry off quicker when duck hunting in the winter. It keeps them out of ant hills as well. Another benefit with these taller stands, is that I’ve found the dogs can mark significantly better especially when hunting a heavily planted field.

Last but absolutely not least. Having a second place for your dog to stay on and return to, has countless benefits for obedience and calm behavior especially in younger less experienced dogs.

On a side note. It sure would be nice take a dog to Palo Duro on a spot and stalk hunt one day…. But so far we haven’t drawn a thing in 5 years. I guess I just gotta dream on and maybe take another hiking trip up there!

Coming in Hot! 92 degrees sunshine and only one shot opportunity all day. Only one flock of Blue Wing Teal came in at 100mph. I didn’t even realize what was happening and went “I wonder what Lucy is looking at?” Then I saw them and made it happen with a double hit from the old side by side. Followed by beautiful double marked retrieves!

Conditioning dogs to be comfortable in a boat isn’t hard it just takes a few positive repetitions. This is a reminder to not get upset with your dog if they don’t hunt out of or just jump out of your boat, when the first time they have ever been in one is during a hunt instead of training..

Dove hunting is a time honored tradition in my family. Especially with my grandpa getting older and not wanting to get up every five minutes to get a bird, having a well trained Gun dog makes a huge difference. You don’t spend half your day looking for downed birds and get to focus on shooting more! Most importantly, it’s also significantly more ethical to hunt with a dog. Every year there would be dozens of birds that would’ve most likely never been recovered without a dog. And if there’s one thing I hate it’s to loose game. Even a dove. As hunters it’s our duty and responsibility to honor the resource and only kill what we need. No better way of minimizing your impact on the resource than having a gun dog.

Dove season is close! Those pups should be in shape and if there’s any training deficiencies, I hope y’all worked on them all year.

We’ve been training every day with wild Pigeons. It helps that there’s hundreds flying right over our front door every evening 👌🏼

Gunfire training and a couple of hours of just sitting still. This is crucial for gun dogs. There’s no cool video, simply just sitting outside and enjoying peace, quiet and nature. And every now and then you break up the silence with a couple of poppers or even a full shell to achieve true neutrality to gunfire!

BAVARIAN PRIDE IS BACK!

After a shoulder surgery, moving away from San Antonio to Central Texas as well as beginning my first chapter of life after the Army. We are back!

This is my first client since all of these changes happened. Her name is Mocha. She is a young Chocolate Lab who is sweet as can be. She is with us for Basic Obedience and our started retriever program. In this picture she is completing her first lesson. Just relax and do nothing.
