Saturday the 20th Karen Deeds will be here helping teams troubleshoot problems they are having in training. If you are not familiar with Karen she is a positive reinforcement guru who can give great insight into your dog’s behavior. She presents for Fenzi Dog Sports and also to animal shelters workers helping them learn to evaluate dogs for adoption. Just what is Handler's Choice format at a seminar? Well, the teams with working spots get to rotate through working individually with the presenter. They could be working on just about any problem they could be encountering. After the first rotation, the teams again took turns working on their individual Tricky Sticky Bits implementing the presenter's suggestions. And again in another rotation! At the last seminar I attended with this format I saw a shy dog being encouraged to be brave, another's owner getting some help on getting her ever vigilant dog to relax, a dog who lost focus entering the ring being kept engaged-a real hodgepodge! And I got some knowledge as an instructor to help address these if I came across them! Auditing is a GREAT way to be able to observe, take notes, and learn without the stress of managing your own dog. And of course there is the comradery of like-minded people! I highly encourage you to try it!

Had a GREAT weekend attending a seminar presented by Karen Deeds at All Fur Fun! Such fun watching the teams work on their individual problem solving using the science of dog behavior! AND watching them succeed!
Crackerjack and I snagged a working spot on Sunday and we got the basic skills necessary for teaching both directed jumping and upper level Fetch!
First we worked on teaching him to “Mark” where I was sending him. Then we worked on sending him to fetch his toy from behind a blind. He often believes toys are gone forever when the are not in his direct sight. Finally we put those two pieces together!
Breaking down behaviors into small “bites” helps dogs to succeed. AND it is easier to do if you have a training partner! Helping each other is the BEST way to train!
Find a friend who will help you succeed even as you help them! It makes training SO much fun!
