February is right around the corner, which means the start of Pet Dental Health Month.
To celebrate pet dental health month, Silver Maple Veterinary Clinic is offering 10% off all dental products and 10% off dental cleanings throughout the month of February!
Dental health is a very important part of your pet’s overall health. Your pet’s teeth and gums should be checked at least once a year by your veterinarian for early signs of problems and to keep your pet’s mouth healthy.
Periodontal (or dental) disease is the most common dental condition in dogs and cats.
Early detection and treatment are critical, because advanced periodontal disease can cause severe problems and pain for your pet. Periodontal disease doesn’t just affect your pet’s mouth.
Other health problems found in association with periodontal disease include kidney, liver, and heart muscle changes.
If you have any questions or concerns with your pets dental health please feel free to reach out to us;

Keiko’s Solensia Story
“Keiko” is a beautiful Tonkinese, female, senior cat who is turning 14 on Monday, January 16th.
Per owner, Keiko is very happy that she is walking better, and will be in great shape for her birthday party, thanks to Solensia, Dr. Annmarie Yoder and Dr. Recipko!
Owner, Valerie, noticed a not so happy bounce in Keiko’s step and brought this concern to Silver Maple’s veterinarian; Dr. Annmarie Yoder.
Before Solensia, Keiko was on a medication that was given every other day. There were no signs of noticeable relief from the OA pain diagnosed by Dr. Yoder on the medication.
Once Solensia was available Dr. Annmarie knew that Keiko would be a great candidate for the once a month injections.
With the help of Dr. Recipko, Keiko has had her first Solensia injection and the outcome has been amazing.
A quote from owner, Valerie;
“After 2 days I noticed an improvement in Keiko. She was no longer ‘bouncing’ on her back leg and she had a lot more energy.
I am very please and happy that Solensia is offered at Silver Maple. I would recommend any cat parent to try if their cat has signs of arthritis pain.”
Silver Maple Vet Clinic will be sharing more success stories in the future. If you think your feline friend would benefit from Solensia please reach out to us so that our veterinarians can get your cat back to their “normal.”

Solensia Success Story - “Duds”
“Duds” is a 14 year old senior cat who is back on the move, thanks to Solensia & Dr. Pomanti!
He has had two rounds of the treatment and his pet parents are thrilled with the results.
A quote from owner, Alison;
“Duds was not moving around a lot and always laying in his bed. I would have to feed him in his cat bed every day, and we needed to adjust his litterbox so that he could get in and out when needed. We were considering euthanizing because we didn’t know what else we could do for him. He was on a medication that was $6 a pill that we had to give him daily, and he was not improving.
After the first treatment of Solensia, Duds was able to walk up the steps to the second floor of the house, back to using the normal litterbox and not having to feed him in bed. We noticed him being able to jump up and he started playing with his brother again. This is a miracle!”

Running into the weekend like...
Good evening and so sorry for the delay! For all of you who have been waiting for part 2 of, "Operation Stem Cell Transplant" here it is! Let me start by telling you how GREAT Molly did! She was sedated for part 2, not completely anesthetized. Prior to my filming I was talking with her and rubbing her nose. Even though she was sedated and experiencing something she knew was not normal, her happy tail wagged as we talked 😊❤. Part 2 started with Kyra, Dr. Coughlin's surgical technician scrubbing Molly's knees to be sure the injection site was sterile and ready for the procedure. Once ready, Dr. Coughlin palpated the knee joint space to find the spot for the needle. Then, the stem cells were injected directly into her knee joints. Stem cells act as an anti-inflammatory and can regenerate tissue. Our hope is that the stem cells do their job for Molly and alleviate the bad arthritis she has in both knees. Check out the video of Dr Coughlin doing her thing! Also, in the images below, you can see how the stem cells came back from the lab and the iv drip with more of Molly's stem cells, just to give her an extra boost! Stay tuned for more updates on Molly and watch for her full story in our June newsletter! P.s. sorry about the noise in the video, it was a busy time in the day!!
Today was a super cool day for the Silver Maple! Dr. Coughlin and team performed part one of our first ever stem cell transplant. Part one was a succes! Molly was a terrific patient! Molly has arthritis in both knees and is having a stem cell transplant to improve her quality of life. Below is some video and pictures from the procedure. The first part of the procedure is Dr Mary removing fat from Molly, she needed approximately 40 grams, hence the scale. The fat samples are carefully placed in tubes along with tubes of Molly's blood and sent off to the lab for the stem cell extraction. Once the cells are extracted, they will be shipped back to us ready for part 2! Stay tuned Friday for more about Molly and her journey and part 2 of "Operation Stem cell transplant!"
