Free Snake Avoidance Refresher Announcement from Winter Kennels. Pic for attention--YES that is Dr. Offermann with a canebrake rattlesnake. Should he be snake trained??

Our first free snake avoidance refresher clinic for 2024 will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Winter ranch outside of Burnet. The address is 222 County Road 203, Burnet, Texas 78611. Please park inside the gate. If you must park on the road, do not go over the cattle guard. The property on the other side of the cattle guard belongs to someone else.

As always this is a come, walk your dog by the snake(s) you have previously done, and go event. All dogs must be on a leash at all times as there is livestock around. We will have a rattlesnake, a copperhead and a water moccasin. If you wish to add another snake, the cost is the same $60 per dog per snake as usual. We will do new dogs as well as refreshers so friends with a new dog are welcome. We do not accept credit cards, but cash, checks or Zelle are fine. Please sign in when you arrive.

For those who have a dog that doesn't get along with others or those who just don't want to stand in line, you can schedule a private refresher with a cost of $40 per snake per dog by calling Kay at 512-263-2416. There is a sign-up form below to fill out and bring with you which should help speed things up.

When you turn onto CR 203 from CR 2340 the first gate on the left is ours with the numbers 222 on the gate. Please close the gate behind you when you arrive; if you are the last car in a line of cars, you get to close the gate. Thanks for your cooperation.

Look forward to seeing you Saturday. If it rains, it is cancelled and rescheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024.

I understand that this training does not guarantee that the dog will never be
bitten by a venomous snake. It simply teaches the dog that the snake is a bad thing and to avoid it if he smells, hears or sees one.

We've been receiving quite a few phone calls about the canine respiratory disease that's in the news. We want to reassure our clients that this is nothing all that new at this point; respiratory diseases come and go (just like for humans), and tend to cluster around holidays.

At this point, the "new" respiratory illness seems similar to others, although perhaps lasting a bit longer. For most healthy dogs it causes an annoying cough for a few weeks that may or may not be helped with treatment. For a very few dogs, usually those with underlying illness, it can be more serious. This is not dissimilar to most respiratory diseases in humans.

Close confinement with unfamiliar dogs in groups increases the prevalence of all respiratory illnesses, in dogs and in people. The more you can keep your dog from "open" groups of other dogs the better you can avoid a problem.

As always, if you have further questions and especially if you have a dog that seems ill don't hesitate to book an appointment with us. We have recently expanded our staffing and generally can see your pet quickly. Please let us know that your dog is coughing as we do have extra precautions we will take to help avoid exposing other pets. We’ll of course update this if new information emerges. Please note boarding service changes at Kyle Animal Hospital.

We value and appreciate the trust you place in us for all of your pets' needs. Over the last 28 years, many of you have utilized our boarding services. In order to continue to expand our health care resources for your pets, we will be discontinuing our general boarding services beginning August 1. We do have plans in place to continue medically necessary boarding past the 1st on a case by case basis, and will of course honor any reservations already made no matter the dates.

Although we have offered boarding for client convenience since we opened, that has never been our focus and we have been hesitant about pets boarding at a hospital with potential illness exposure. We have not had issues with that, but with our drastic increase in medical demand we are concerned about these medical cases exposing healthy boarding pets. In some cases it would be like us going out of town and staying in a hospital rather than a motel. There are many good options for boarding in the area that did not exist nearly 30 years ago when we started up and we are confident that one of the many area dedicated boarding kennels will better and more safely fit your boarding needs.

We are excited to be expanding our on-site diagnostic imaging, surgery and dentistry programs as we phase out of the boarding operations, and stay tuned for some exciting additions to your medical team at Kyle Animal Hospital!

As always, should you have any questions about this or need further information about area boarding options, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We look forward to serving your pets' healthcare needs in the future, as we have for the past 28 years.
