Part 1
For the Love of Polo with George Dill Farms LLC
We are so excited to share our interview with talented MSU Varsity Polo Team player, Clare Bogart! We met Clare for the first time at the NW Aggie Invitational on November 15th -16th 2025.
Clare shared that, "Stealth is my favorite Dill Pony because she was such a push-button horse. I didn't have to think about riding her when I was playing, I just played the game. When I would ask her to do something, she just did it."
Some fun facts about Clare!
* Started riding at 5 years old.
* "My first pony's name was Jackie. Once I started to advance in polo, I slowly stopped playing Jackie and started playing my parents' horses. Even though I wasn't playing Jackie, I still demanded that he come to all the games so he wouldn't be left alone at our farm. One time, my parents were playing a game in Houston, and as usual, Jackie came with us. When my parents were playing the game, I was a little bored and I tied Jackie's halter to itself and rode around the club and then back to the field and watched my parents play. After they were done with the game, they untacked the horses, and my mom, sister, and I went over to the bleachers and talked with my mom's friends. All of a sudden, I see my dad riding Jackie in the same way I did up to the bleachers. He was a crowd favorite, and so was my sweet pony Jackie"
*Claire's dad, learned to play polo, when he was 12, then played at Texas A&M, and he taught her mom when they got married, then her sister, and then Clare.
*Clare's mom grew up riding hunter jumper, which Clare also participated in when she was young.
*She also barrel raced!
*Clare grew up on a farm, and loved helping work the cows.
* Clare shared this about what disciplines helped her the most when she was playing polo at the same time, " Hunter jumper helped my riding more than my polo game, but barrels helped me learn how to use my legs to turn a horse and lift them off the ground. It also taught me how to ride really hot horses."
*Clare prefers field polo, because that is how she grew up playing polo. She is learning arena polo while in college at MSU.
* Home Club: Houston Polo Club, Houston,Texas
*What makes playing polo unique to Clare?
"It's a team sport and a partner sport. You have to play with 3-4 other players and work with a horse that you might have never ridden before. It's a challenge and a gift at the same time because it makes you a better team player and rider at the same time."
* Clare's polo goals for the 2025 - 2026 Season are:
"I want to work on playing better arena polo. I play like a grass player in the arena, and I want to be a more well-rounded player by learning better arena skills and strategies."
*What she admires about her coach Thea Johnson.
"I love the way I can talk to her as a player, officer, and a person. She's very easy to work with and a fun person to have as a coach. Thea gives her all to our club and it shows!"
*Clare also shared what she loves best playing for MSU
"I love my team. I'm lucky enought to play with an incredible group of people and it makes playing for MSU that much better!"
* Curious about what other interests you may have in common with Clare? She enjoys hunting, playng the guitar, and occasionally drawing.
We can't wait to see where arena polo takes Clare in the future!
