Introducing my partner in crime, my soul-horse, my goofy, stubborn, chubby, strong, playful, beautiful, Rhody boy!
Rhody is not a new addition to NLF, but life gets busy and I finally have the time to share his sweet story with you.
Rhody came to northern Wisconsin 3 years ago. He was rescued by a friend of mine, from a kill pen in Texas, and traveled all the way up to Bayfield in the middle of March. When our little Texas pony got here, there was a large pile of snow pushed up in the arena...he must have thought it was a hill and tried to run up it! It took four people to dig him out, and he learned quickly what snow was. Of course after he was out and unharmed, everyone had a good laugh.
Rhody and I bonded quickly. He was a mess when he first arrived. He got a hair cut, a good cleaning, and of course unlimited groceries. He quickly changed physically, but it took him a long time to warm up to his human herd. Rhody is small, but he is mighty. We soon realized he was going to need a little help from our awesome trainer, and he did amazing. Over those first two years I fell in love with this little tank. He truly is my “soul-horse”. I’d call for him and he’d come on up. If I was in the barn, he was under foot. He’d stand at the gate when I arrived and wait til I came to greet him. Even now, when I’m gone for a weekend (which is almost never), he is mad at me for being gone. He is such a personality, and you just can’t help but love him.
He was surely abused in his old life in TX. He takes a while to trust. He has always been terrified of men, but loves kids. Just like Lady, his past is part of what makes him such a great horse for EAL. Rhody is awesome at his job. He loves on people in an incredible way, and we continue to watch him grow in his own healing process. Just recently we watched him approach a new client-who’s a man-and not be afraid one bit. He greets him every week with his nose! Nuzzles all over his neck and licking his jacket. It’s awesome to see healing happening in both our clients, as well as our horses.
I was blessed last spring to buy my sweet buddy, and bring him over to New Life Farm. If you’d like to come meet Rhody, or even be one of his weekly pals, just shoot me a message! Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is for adults and kids of all walks of life. If you’d like more information about EAL and what we do here at New Life, shoot me a message!
