As a trainer, I get a lot of questions about leash manners.
"Why does my dog pull?"
"Why can't my dog walk in a straight line?"
"Why does my dog halt?"
The answer is simple. It's natural. That is natural for dogs. Understanding a dogs natural instincts can often be the first step to training. Lily often zig zags and halts when we walk but we trained out pulling.
Leash manners can be hard but it is never too late to start. As the weather gets warmer, leash manners will become more important.
Things that can help:
1. Eye contact games
2. Consistency
3. Food and toy rewards (even on walks)
4. Patience
Don't be afraid to reach out about private lessons. Sundays are wide open. I am also available early mornings if you like to get your walk in before work!

It isn't natural for a dog to walk on a leash. Dogs will always do what they are most rewarded for.
Praising your dog for doing the correct thing goes a long way.

Chandler worked with Lily this evening. It is important even when your dog becomes really good at something to continue to work it and reward.
Snuffle matt
Snuffle matts are amazing tools. Dogs really enjoy them and they have to work for their reward resulting in burned energy.
Lily gets a small snack out of her snuffle matt on days that she has class instead of dinner. Over feeding before class can result in lower motivation to work.
