When your dog is doing well. Start adding more challenging commands. Teaching your dog to down after recall can be very helpful in some situations.
It doesn't look pretty when you begin teaching wait and come with distractions. With time and patience your pup will listen every time.
You should be training your pup at home in the beginning. Take it slow be patient. Then you can add distractions and duration.

Thank you to this friendly stranger at Home Depot!
Higgins is learning that he doesn’t need to jump to get pets, with me (his trainer) or anyone who comes to say hi!
He’ll need a lot of repetition before he completely understands, but a little practice every day will help him really learn the better behavior.
If you’re trying to teach your dog not to jump, don’t forget to involve other people in your training if you want them to REALLY understand!

I’m so impressed how far Bella has come!
Do you remember how nervous she was when she started board and train?
Now I completely trust her off leash at a quiet park.
She’s about to have so much fun when she returns home to her family❤️

Set the tone for the day by adding this simple training exercise to your morning walk!
If your dog is not fully stay trained, you need to work on this in the quiet and safety of your home first.
But even if you aren’t 100% confident in their recall, you can bring a long leash and keep that on during the stay practice.
Once your dog really has it down, you can add in “out of sight” time where you walk around a corner or behind a parked car.
Every step will help build your dog’s trust and self control. Plus, they’ll be more ready for their post-morning nap!

Do you really need to practice with all these little things?
The more positive associations you create for your puppy, the more comfortable they’ll feel in the world as adults.
And as owners, it’s really hard to anticipate what your dog might be afraid of. I’ve seen dogs scared of traffic cones, hats, the garbage truck…
So if there’s something you know your puppy will be seeing a lot of, especially around your kids, use it as a part of their training when they’re YOUNG.
That way they won’t have a bad reaction and act out around your kids.
All you’re doing is preparing your puppy for the stimulation so they can HAVE FUN with you and your children, and NOT be afraid.
And if you do a training program for your puppy, be sure to tell your trainer you have kids!

Have you ever felt anxious?
What do you do in those situations?
Do you avoid every single situation in your life that makes you feel nervous?
Or do you maybe ask for support? Make a game plan? Keep trying??
Your puppy doesn’t deserve to stay locked away from the world.
And you don’t deserve to live with a puppy who barks at or even bites everything new that comes into your home out of fear.
No, you deserve a puppy who has the skills to regulate their emotions. And most importantly, live life by your side!
So don’t be afraid to let your dog experience a little stress. By helping them through it, you’ll be setting them up for a lifetime of ease!

It’s all about redirecting the instinct.
Instead of open door -> run
We want them to open door -> sit.
And with a lot of practice and treats, your puppy will do just that!

Proactive training alert!
Noise desensitization is just one of so many ways you can reduce stress and anxiety with training. For you AND your dog.
Starting when your dog is a puppy is best because it’ll set them up for a calm and joyful life.
That’s why my puppy enrichment program is so popular (check out the link in my bio if you’re getting a puppy soon).
But this exercise will also greatly help most adult dogs. Just take it slow and always remember to reward calm!
