I've always wondered why Sunriver did not have a place to board dogs. When we 1st started dog sitting most of our new clients were vacationers staying in Sunriver that had found us on Rover. There's finally a place opening up soon (located in Sunriver business park).

○Doggie Daycare $25/day (up to 8 hours, $5 each additional hour)
○Dog Boarding $35/night ($10/night additional dog in same room, no weekly rate discounts)
○Cat Boarding $25/night
○Prefer drop-offs between 7 - 9a and pick-ups between 3 -6p on weekdays due to homeschool

☆Will be launching a trial Booking/Appointment app in January (optional, but will allow you to see availability and book your own appt ahead of time), on hold for now because Square Appointments doesn't do overnight bookings😡

☆Late Spring: Possible Business Partnership/Mentorship Opportunity. Looking at providing start up capital (seed $) to locals wanting to get into their own pet boarding business. Prerequisites: own home with at least 1 acre, no HOAs that would preclude a kennel/run area, someone available 24/7 when not closed for vacation. Priority given to: veterans with honorable discharge, homeschooling families, those with a good set up already. Taking applications now.

Mondays. Dog (Kaya) opens sliding glass door. Zip and Zazi come in sliding glass door and interrupt school. Kid puts dogs out front door but forgets to close sliding glass door. Dogs come back in sliding glass door and interrupts school again. Jason is on front porch with no idea.... 🤷‍♀️

Day in the life of a full-time dog-sitter/homeschooling family:

0600 Wake up, let dogs out to potty, feed dogs
0715 Let dogs out to poop/play
0900 Start school
1030 Kids break, play with dogs, put dogs up for morning nap (except for daycare dogs, they stay out to play)
1200 Lunch, let dogs out to play/potty
1400 School finished, dogs/mom afternoon nap
1700 Feed dogs, make human dinner (mom or dad take kids to sports, rotate weekly)
1830 Let dogs out to play/potty
2100 Bedtime 🥱
Midnight'ish See if any dogs need to potty (if they don't get up they don't go)

BLUF: Wash your hands.

Reading one of my favorite books on history, "Guns, Germs, and Steel" Ch. 11 titled "Lethal Livestock" made me think about writing a post today about zoonotics. (The article below describes in more detail.) Basically germs/viruses/parasites can transfer from critters to humans to even more humans. More people have died from these than from guns or steel.

We require certain vaccinations as preventatives due to zoonotic "crud". Parasite meds for prevention is highly recommended. Anytime a dog is around other dogs (ie. dog parks, boarding) they are much more likely to pick up some unwanted germies. With that said, us owners assume how much risk we're willing to take. My dog is not on parasite meds for prevention (ie. Heartworm/flea/tick) but is tested regularly and so far has not had any positive tests. When she goes in for her checkup next month I'm going to seriously look into it though.
