Mustangs & Misfits

Mustangs & Misfits Providing Rescue, Rehabilitation and rehoming for those in need. We were founded because we couldn’t turn our backs. Rescue is only the beginning.
(2)

We understand that “rescue is only the beginning,” and we are working toward a rescue model that significantly increases the probability of success. We are committed to saving and serving slaughter-bound, abused, high-risk and desperate horses. Our dedicated team lovingly cares for the horses as they heal and are assessed, rehabilitated and trained in preparation for their forever homes. Once the

horse is carefully matched with an adopter, our Team partners adoptees with the adopters to ensure a happy and safe transition. Our mission is to help those who cannot help themselves, until they can find their forever home. By rescuing animals who are in need whether they are being seized by law enforcement or their owners are no longer in a position to care for them we will take them in and do whatever it takes to find them their forever home. In order to do this we will need the support of our family, friends and animal lovers alike through volunteers and donations of all types. Please follow our stories, see our rescues and enjoy seeing the lives we all touch change.

Based on Disney's epic 1999 animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend, Phil Collins. Washed up on the shores of West Africa, an infant boy is taken in and raised by gorillas who name him Tarzan. Apart from striving for acceptance from his ape father, Tarzan's life is mostly monkey business until a human expedition treks into his tribe's territory, and he encounters creatures like himself for the first time. Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with emotion, as he discovers his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts. High-flying excitement and hits, like the Academy Award winning "You'll Be in My Heart," as well as "Son of Man" and "Two Worlds," make Tarzan an unforgettable theatrical experience for the whole family.

HAPPY DANCE TIME! BLONDIE IS HOME
About a week and a half ago while I was cooking dinner, we got a phone call that Blondie was on a pasture about 4-5 miles from our house. (Yes, they found us on Facebook. Id like to give a huge thank you to everyone who shared!!!) He had shown up because the land owners had put a new horse on the pasture. We immediately rushed out there to bring him home.
Well, he had gone back to being a truly feral wild mustang. We had several days of desperate attempts and 3 doses of tranquilizers, but we were unable to catch Blondie. Feeling hopeless and certain that Blondie would never be caught by us, we reached out to professional that was recommended to us. Their recommendation was spot on. Jim Light successfully captured, loaded, transported, and unloaded Blondie back into our (new massively reinforced) training pen. Jim was riding the pasture Blondie was in for FOUR DAYS rain or shine, cold or hot. He was DEDICATED to bringing Blondie home. Talk about one heck of a cowboy. If you ever lose livestock and you can't catch it - give him a call. There's nothing out there he couldn't catch.
We let Blondie settle in yesterday, and we started working with him again today for training. He's a little more skittish now and a lot skinnier, but he's still as smart as ever. He's going to make a great horse, and I'm so happy he's home.

Our Story

I have spent my life surrounding myself with horses and dogs. I have had rabbits, goats, sheep, pigs and cats as well. I love animals and I want to save them all. About 18 months ago I ran across a story about the Yakima reservation horses that go to slaughter and the foals that are left at orphanages for adoptions. It was such a sad story I wanted to do something. SO I talked to my daughter Kassy and her friend Brad and decided that I would adopt three foals so we each could have a horse to save and teach. Kassy and Brad were both struggling with addiction and I thought the foals would help save them as well. SO I put the plan in motion and went to Yakima and brought home three scared souls! Athena, Apollo and Saphira adjusted to the routine quickly but not to people very quickly. Athena was the youngest (we suspect) and the first to figure out the humans would scratch and brush her, which she loves. This journey has taught me that I can make a difference in some lives. I can help those who can’t help themselves until they are strong enough, physically and emotionally, to move on to live with other families. I also know I cannot do this on my own. From these thoughts the Mustangs & Misfits plan went into motion. I want to save lives through rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming. I am working on buying some property, bare land, to expand my rescue beyond the four horses and two dogs that I have already rescued! We will need to do lots of fundraising, grant writing and hard work to bring this venture to fruition. To get the LLC and the 501c setup and filed will cost $ 2,000.00, which is just a small piece of the start-up. Any help and donations for this grand project will be greatly appreciated.
