From the very start Waffles has always been a bit of a bully around Cisco. But as of late Waffles and Cisco seem to be hanging out together? Usually Cisco prefers to just hang out and has no issues with being alone. The "three amigos" tend to hang together. The only thing for sure is about the time I think I have them figured out they switch it up !
The boys get two meals a day in the barn plus a big flake of hay for night munching. We also provide a round bale for " day hay". Gives them options to have grass hay or do some grazing on the wild stuff growing. After this video I did go find Cisco. He was grazing and resting under the shade of a Live Oak tree in the front field. He will show up at the hay bale this afternoon. All is well at CLR !
I'm so sorry I haven't posted in a while. It has been very HOT in South Texas. About all I do with the horses when it is this hot is give them an occasional bath, keep their toes trimmed and let them graze in the shade. We live on VERY sandy soil. In fact a BEACH with no ocean. Our pet Malinois (Belgian Shepherd ) loves to run in the sand! Actually "Kopi" is our grand-dog. While our military son is deployed she lives with us for a few years. Debbie figured out the best way to get the sand off her after she has been playing outside! All is well at CLR....
At CLR we also raise Bees. Bees are very important for the agriculture in this country. If the hive is really strong in late June we can harvest some honey. We just got over 5 gallons out of 2 hives. This video shows those "honey super frames" just setting out so the bees can clean up every drop of honey we could not collect. After a day or so I will store those frames until next year's honey season. The bees have never had an issue with the horses but I do have a fence between them, because I'm sure the horses would try and go for a sweet snack then get a pointed surprise! All is well at CLR! Have a very happy 4th of July celebration !
I was out doing some ranch work and looked over to see Jedi scratching his backside. Sometimes you just gotta do what feels right at the time. That scratching tree is right beside the Honeybee Apiary. The bees don't seem to mind. All is well at CLR !
In the evening we bring the boys into their barn stalls. Their 12x12 barn stall opens out to a 48x16 turnout so they have plenty room. Not far away a young teenage girls horse was shot during the night by some drunk idiots and a deer rifle. So we bring the boys in every night for their dinner and hay snack! Goodnight from CLR !
I have an outstanding farrier / shoer that comes to the ranch. She lives somewhat away so to lessen the trips, I decided about a year ago to start learning how to trim the hoof's on the three amigos myself. Cisco is too big and old and he has to go in the draft horse stocks. So I leave those toes to the pro. When she comes out to work on Cisco, I have her check the feet on the three others to see if I'm screwing up. I try to pay her a fee for that but sometimes we argue a bit. LOL ! I appreciate her time and teaching me. She is patient with the horses and me as we are all older. There are some shoe'ers closer but I appreciate having someone that will work with me. Mike and Tim were both great but they are too far for a ranch call.
About a year ago I started a hobby of setting up a small garden railroad. The horses occasionally will come up to the fence and watch the train. We don't spend a lot of time with it but it gives a neat break from the ranch work. Enjoy the video and may all have a blessed New Year !
At CLR every time the wind blows hard I have been concerned about a very dead tree ready to fall on our perimeter fence. While the boys would not intentionally leave our ranch they would be curious for a walk-a-bout. Plus it is deer season and that could be very dangerous for them. I have the ability to drop a tree but this one needed to be taken piece by piece and old guys should not climb trees ! So the pros got this job. All is well at Clyde's Legacy Ranch !
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, Here at Clyde's Legacy Ranch we are thankful for all that God has provided for us. The "BOYS" are thankful in this video for their DAY-HAY. I do hope you have a great Thanksgiving and holiday time! All is well at CLR!
Finally a cool day and evening. About 70 degrees for the first time since May! Cisco is waiting patiently at the barn for dinner as the three amigos are playing with our "grand dog" Kopi. She is a Belgian Malinois. We are going to have her at the ranch until my son returns from military deployment. She wants to run with the horses but I'm afraid she would get fatally kicked! So fence between them is the rule. All is well at CLR!
It's Turkey Time I guess at CLR? We were invaded by about 15 wild turkeys for about 20 minutes today. So are turkeys in flocks? I guess... horses just looked at them.. All is well at CLR.
Well it looks like in a couple weeks the Waffle's ear is just about as healed as it is gonna be. He will have what is known in wrestling circles a "cauliflower ear". The aftermath of a hematoma. It doesn't bother him and we will watch for infection but for now all is well at CLR.......
Well it has been weeks since Waffles decided to bash his ear into the barn as he was squabbling with a brother. He is under vet care and we are required to clean up the wound site every day. The vet cut away some tissue to help healing but more will possible have to be removed. We have been successful in fighting off infection. Debbie works on him about 20 minutes every morning. This injury will take months to totally heal. Then we will see what the permanent ear will look like. He can move it and he tolerates the care process. All is well at CLR !
