Cats and Dogs Forever Sanctuary
strives to give feral and companion cats and dogs with virtually no other options the best life possible in a clean, cage-free, loving environment. We don't have it in our budget to take in more fur kids in need of a safe place
Most of our animals are seniors and special needs with health issues and need regular veterinary care and medications.

Feral cat Stormy❤️ showed up at our door after someone had shot him and shattered his front leg. Stormy is a big boy, he got used to being an indoor kitty. He gets along great with all the other fur kids around here.

Cooler weather is coming be prepared. Straw will reflect body heat back to a cat and actually repels moisture. Straw is tough, thick, dry leftover stalks from crops. It's lightweight and golden in color. Straw has a hollow center which makes for great insulation (just like double pane windows).

Do NOT use hay (OR blankets) for bedding in outdoor cat shelters. Hay is green and heavy. Hay is typically used to feed animals, like horses. It absorbs moisture, making it damp, cold and uncomfortable for cats, and has the potential to get moldy.

You can buy straw bales at your local co-op, farm/ag supply stores, local garden center/nursery, Home Depot, Lowe's, Tractor Supply or Ace Hardware. We’ve even seen bales of straw being sold outside grocery stores along with pumpkins. Farms selling pumpkins often sell bales of straw too.

DO NOT BUY CRAFT STORE SMALLER BALES OF STRAW. THESE ARE USUALLY CHEMICALLY TREATED AND COULD HARM ANIMALS!

We got sad news about Chantelle's struggles. Her internal medicine specialist found out via ultrasound that Chantelle, our sweet 5 year old paralized girl, has renal dysplasia. Renal dysplasia, or kidney malformation, is a developmental disorder that occurs when a cat's kidneys don't develop properly before birth.
Her internal medicine specialist told us that there is no specific treatment for renal dysplasia. Regardless of what is done, patients will lose kidney function over time. The best we can do to support kidney function is to continue daily sub-q fluids. Chantelle is on Vetriscience Renal essentials and Vetriscience Coenzyme Q10. She is also on Nitrofurantoin for bladder health. Her urinary sphincters are weak. She is leaking urine from the trauma to her spinal cord.

Cute Buster❤️ had his dental surgery a few days ago. We didn't get nearly enough from donations to cover his vet bill. But we could not watch him suffer. We paid out of pocket, like we often do for our own. This is only possible because we live a simple life. The truly important thing is that Buster❤️will have a pain-free life.
The vet had to extract 24 teeth. Buster❤️ is currently on medications seven times per day. His recovery goes well. He is eating without issues. Buster's mom was able to visit him. She is working hard to build a stable life for them. Cute Buster❤️ will be safe and sound at our sanctuary till they can be reunited.

Adorable cross-eyed little Ava❤️ had dental work done. She had most of her teeth extracted. Her vet bill was high, over $1,200

Please help us give cute Buster, a 13-year-old dachshund ❤️ the medical care he so deserves.
We took Buster in temporarily till his person is back on her feet. They became homeless last week, living on the hot TX streets.
Buster had an appointment with our vet this morning. He urgently needs dental work.
