I'm thinking of cutting back on a few animals.

Going to stop breeding bunnies - so selling off my boys. All angora - 1 black French x English, 1 fawn/chocolate tort French x English, 1 chocolate satin. 6️⃣5️⃣ each for f x e and 7️⃣0️⃣ for satin.

1 double hutch available - either sold with the rabbits or after they have sold - 7 ft long x 18" wide x 22" tall - top comes off, one side has a door, the other you can access from the top. $150

1 single hutch - only available with a rabbit or after rabbits have sold - needs work. $40

Also going to part with some hens - 1 barred rock, 1 black colored brown egg layer, 1 Plymouth rock, 1 red colored tan egg layer (older, but still lays eggs) 1️⃣4️⃣0️⃣ for all 4.

Prices are firm - I don't want to do this, but I don't have time for proper care for them right now, and this is hard enough to let them go.

It doesn't look like much but, I put in 9 posts and ran the new fence for the chicken yard. Now I just have to come up with a gate. I would really like to get one of those arches to put in front of the chicken yard so I can put some lights up.

Well, we had our first loss for 2023. One of our Easter Eggers hasn't been doing so well, and there's really not a lot you can do to treat a chicken for illness. We lost her last night. :(

Meet caramel! She is a sicilian buttercup hen, one of our neighbors found her in their yard and was unable to find her owner, so now she joins our Motley flock.

Sorry folks, the Farm Stand has been closed for a few weeks. The weather has been terrible, so I don't want to put anything outside which could get damaged by the weather.

I don't know when I will have eggs again. My birds molted, and then completely stopped laying. They still haven't started back up and I don't know why. I know there are many customers who are desperate for eggs right now, but I can't force my birds to lay, I just have to wait it out. I will be posting ads again when they start laying.

One of the most common questions I get is if I am a certified organic facility. Sadly, I am not.

It costs thousands of dollars and takes years to become certified organic. And even then, it requires inspections which cost money, regular testing which costs money, and it's just not conducive or affordable for a small business such as myself, especially if I'm selling 4 to 6 cartons eggs a week for between $2.50 a dozen and $4.50 a dozen. I wouldn't be able to sell enough eggs to even make up for the cost of becoming certified organic.

Many farms proudly boast the organic label, but they actually are not certified organic, because of how hard it is to become certified organic. Honestly, I barely make enough money to keep up with the cost of feeding my chickens, let alone the cost of betting, repairs to coops, veterinary care if necessary...

Here's a link to the requirements to become certified organic in Washington state just so you know just how difficult it is to become certified organic.

https://agr.wa.gov/departments/organic/new-applicant-info #:~:text=The%20new%20application%20fee%20for,due%20with%20your%20new%20application.

WSDA Organic Program is currently experiencing staff shortages. To allow our resources to catch up with the demand for services, WSDA Organic Program is limiting the number of new applications for certification. Effective May 15, 2021 and continuing through 2022, we are unable to accept new company....

SongDog Urban Farm

SongDog Urban farm is a small, urban, microfarm located in Lacey, Washington owned and ran by me (single mom) and my 2 kids. We are on 1/4 acre, and raise French Angora rabbits, Satin Angora rabbits and Silkie chickens. We also have chicken eggs, various dried and fresh herbs, flowers (Marigolds and calendula) and fresh vegetables in small quantities available throughout the spring and summer. We are working towards a sustainable, eco-friendly future where 80% of our vegetables will come from our farm. We are available for small tours to see the bunnies and chickens, and teaching classes on chicken and Angora rabbit care. Currently we have 25% of our yard converted into garden space, but eventually we would like to turn 70% of our backyard into garden space. I also own and run SongDog Weaving and Art, if you are looking for fiber (alpaca, angora and various wools), handspun yarn, handwoven items and other art!
