Sharing here because this sweet fellow who followed me home from a run 3 weeks ago would be a wonderful and faithful farm dog.

It's been almost a month since Boy followed me home. I've since shared his info to every local lost pet page I could think of and checked if he was reported missing at HCAC... No leads, looks like he was likely dumped.

On this Friday the 31st, which also marks 1 month since we met, he will be getting his neuter sutures out and we will be -

Ready to find him a forever home!

Asking small rehoming fee which amounts to about 10% of vet costs, thank you for understanding - this was no small undertaking for our family.

Last week he had a vet check, he's now:
✅ Neutered
✅ Microchipped
✅ Heart Worm Negative and on preventatives
✅ F***l Checked and dewormed accordingly
✅ Current on Rabies 💉
✅ Prescribed flea & tick prevention
✅ A proven champ at the vet's office, they praised him for being such a good boy during his visit and he did great meeting another dog in the office.

He will come with:
➡ Current food
➡ Harness and retractable lead
➡ Remainder of prescribed preventatives and microchip info for transfer into new owner's name.

What we know about him:
💚 Young, under 2 according to vet/AC
🤔 Looks like a Heeler mix
❤ Gentle, Playful and Smart!
💛 Food motivated
💜 Now knows sit, kennel (goes straight in when I let him in the house door), stays close easily with voice recall.
🚗 Rides well in car/back of truck under cover and does well in public on lead, can benefit from more practice to build confidence on lead.
💙 Great alert dog, will bark at anything he finds out of place but calms down when you let him know you hear/see it too. His bark is a great bluff, very convincing, but he's gentle in every encounter even with strangers coming in the yard.
💗 Enjoys chew type toys and real raw bones that we've given him, needs tough toys for chewing like a Kong, etc.
😂 Gets the Zoomies if you try to play fetch with him.
💕 Loves kids, plays well with our 3, 8, 10 and 13 year olds.
💖 Has met my cat successfully but has not been unsupervised around her. I would recommend checking his tolerance of new things in a controlled way since we know so little about him.

⬇ Last pic shows how much he loves the lavender bush. He smells very pleasantly aromatic when I bring him inside from the yard. 😆

When it's hot and humid outside and the garden, growing goats kids and milking are taking up so much time, I always dream of the "slower" winter time when I can rest (ha!), create and dream of the year's plans ahead... Then when the cold blasts arrive, I realize there is no rest; there is only a new kind of busy. This busy hurts any skin exposed to the air and involves so much breaking of ice to refill water. 🙃

But! Today I did get to take some time and make an old favorite variety of soap that's been requested by the loaf. Soon I hope to start restocking for the farmers market season to come!

I never would have guessed that this woodsy, smoky, very *brown* soap would become a customer favorite. Smoky Woodsman Pine Tar Goat Milk Soap with fine pumice gets the most requests for whole loaves, both by neighbors and friends across the country. I always find myself wishing that it was brownie batter instead of overpowering natural pine tar scented soap batter. 😄

Available!

Country Maidens TR Sundance - ADGA/AGS buck, proven breeder, will be 4 years old this spring 2025...

And...

Hershey - 8 month old, sweet, chocolate colored, disbudded wether who would make a great companion for a breeder buck through the off season or a pet (needs a home with at least one other goat). Dam raised but naturally friendly, this guy was wethered using burdizzo tool between 3 and 4 months.

Both are mellow, easy keepers who are very approachable. We disease test and have always had clean results - CL, CAE, Johnes, Q Fever.

Please message with any questions.

Update! Gold wether has found a new herd, chocolate wether still available. ❤

Pair of Wethers available once again!

We thought we had their home lined up but due to unforseen circumstances in the life of their future human caregiver, they are back up for consideration.

Wethers are the lowest maintenance way to get into goats, they make great pets and also can be companions for bucks that are separated from the doe herd most of the year. Please ask any questions on their care needs as I love to set new goat people up for success and ensure the future health of our babies.

🌼 Both born in May, dam raised with lots of handling.
✔ Wethered by burdizzo at 3-4 months.
❤ Very hardy and sweet boys.
✔ Disease Tested Herd.
💚 Naturally raised on organic feed and herbal parasite preventatives.
✔ Disbudded.

Would like them to go as a pair but can separate depending on interest. Please message with any questions or post them below. See caption for re-homing amount.

Nigerian Dwarf Buck Available!

With breeding season in full swing and 4 other fellas taking all the work in our herd - this sweet, easy keeper is not in the lineup and I'd love for him to find a herd where he can be used!

Sundance is a 3 year old, born here in 2021 and when used to sire kids for us, he has passed on his naturally gentle and friendly temperament. He has great lines behind him for dairy as well! Check out his pedigree pictured here.

Black Copper Marans rooster looking for a flock of his own. He hatched in March 2024, is good with his hens, very alert, tolerant of the other cockerels in the flock but he is definitely the dominant one. We have 2 other BCM roosters we're growing out so he's available.

See captions for rehoming cost.

Tomorrow, Saturday October 12th, is our last day at Meade County Farmers Market for the 2024 season! We'll be there from 9am to noon.

Since it will be last call for butternut squash, I wanted to share our favorite way to prepare this delicious and nutritious fall crop. For the dish pictured below:
-Split lengthwise, de-seed and oil in pure avocado oil (we also have used quality olive oil).
-Roast at 350* for an hour and then left in the oven, turned off until I was ready to scrape them out of the skin into a baking dish. Larger squash may need closer to 90 minutes.
-Add generous salted, grass fed butter, returned to the oven to melt for a few minutes and then cinnamon added to taste.

Delicious! And no added sweetener required.

This can be prepped in advance to the scraped out puree stage and then frozen in freezer bags for later baking, that's what we'll do with almost all of ours and vacuum seal for winter in serving sizes to feed our family.

🌈 Lily's Rainbow Dozens are now available by pre-order, arranged farm pickup or local meet up. The next 6 dozens are reserved already and we're happy to make more arrangements. We're very excited that we have many young pullets we've been raising since spring who will be laying for us soon!

💜 Elderberry Syrup Kits will be in stock for those who want immune support this season.

💗 Lily and I both have hand made soap available, Alice is sending her Floral Sachets made with homegrown flowers. 🌹

We still have 5 Whiting True Blue cockerels and a Swedish Flower cockerel looking for a new flock. All around 5 months old.

They can go at no charge but if you want to make a contribution to Lily's chicken raising efforts, that would be much appreciated. These guys were raised on organic feed as are our other animals here.

Re-homing because we have enough roosters for our flocks. The Whitings have 2 blue egg genes so they would be good for colorful egg layer projects. We love that these birds can have a variety of feather colors. Beast, the boy pictured twice, is quite tame because we've handled him a lot and he was always picked on by the other cockerels and raised separately because of that. He needs a flock with gentle, accepting temperaments. The other boys are all mellow towards humans.

When the fridge looks like this all the time and you have 100 recipe ideas but no time to play in the kitchen, what do you do??

Only one logical answer, you go get another beautiful dairy goat in milk to bring home so that you can keep it flowing all through the winter when the rest of the herd is bred and dries off.

Meet Rangell, named for the majestic Wrangell Mountains in Alaska - the birth state of 3 of our daughters, where we left a piece of our hearts. After how much we loved her half sister, Pi, it was an easy choice to return to Sirocco Ridge Farm for another doe to join our home dairy herd. She is such a love and I'm so thankful to have her.

When there's no market, there's a little extra time to restock and work on farm projects!

Lily now has her Touch of Fall soaps in stock! 🍂 Colorants are all natural plants and minerals (annato, madder, red clay, cocoa powder) and the scent this year is Vanilla Sea Salt essential oil blend by Plant Therapy. I think they turned out super cute!

Our old hand-me-down broody breaker and grow out pen blew over in the high winds Friday so Brad also had a project day in the garage building one that's bigger and better. Just in time because we have a broody hen that needs to quit! 😅
