It looks like we have quite a few new followers here, so let me reintroduce myself!

I’m Shelby!
I started Darling Dogs after getting into the dog industry working at a dog daycare. I knew once I started there, dogs would be my forever career passion in one way or another.
I began my certification process with the Animal Behavior College(certified dog trainer, CPR/First Aid certified) and furthered my certifications with the American Kennel Club(STAR puppy/CGC evaluator).

I have a 9 month old Bernese Mountain Dog, Serena and a 9 year old human child(😂), both keep me on my toes and keep dog training interesting.

I love creating and strengthening the bond between dog and owner. I love being the bridge of communication between dog and owner. I enjoy analyzing the genetic makeup of dogs and how it correlates to our every day life and how we can use their genetic predispositions to our benefit as well as understanding their genetics during difficult behavioral times.

I look forward to not only teaching your dog to be a well behaved member of pet society but also strengthening the relationship you have!

Spice. Things. Up. Throw in a wait command. Speed up your pace and slow it down to a creep. Be sporadic. Make sure your dog is focused on you and your communication. Especially with intelligent breeds, a walk at a constant speed at a constant pace can get dull. And we always want to keep their focus and attention and excitement for learning! Luna was definitely over my shenanigans during this session 😂🐶❤️

Luna working on extended sit-stays. Training the stay command is not for the weak hearted and can take the SMALLEST time increments to build up to that solid stay length. In the beginning of the video she was eyeballing a solo soccer player and a squirrel, given the cattle dog inside of her, I was THRILLED with how she responded.

Luna is a bit older and more seasoned than her brother Remus so I didn’t feel the need to start her with a gentle leader. If you watch the leash closely you can see when she feels the tension on her harness and leash when she gets slightly too far, and corrects herself.

It’s ok to let your dog lead the walk and follow their noses! Draco has amazing check ins, which is what we strive for. Your dog should have the confidence to lead and explore, but still check in with you and pull into a heel when commanded.

Different training tools and how they fit will place your dog differently by your side. Clipping the leash to Remus’s harness puts the middle of his back by my legs, clipping the leash to his collar keeps his upper body/neck closer to my legs, and when using the gentle leader since it it’s clipped underneath the chin, keeps their head by your leg in a more typical heel formation. My favorite experience with Remus and his sister Luna was getting asked multiple times if they were service animals due to their calm demeanor and focus 🐶❤️
