They say you see your groomer more than you see your vet, but if you have both in one place, you’re sure to have your kitty well looked after! Sometimes our groomers notice things that are hard to see at home like waxy buildup in the ear or issues with the skin that we can tend to all on the same visit.

Did you know: Periodontal disease is a very common issue among cats, affecting an estimated 85% of felines over six years of age. Kitties may also suffer fractured teeth, gingivitis or resorption, all of which should be treated by a vet. If you have had a recommendation for your cat to have their teeth cleaned, we are happy to help! In house x-rays allow us to take a close look at what is needed and treat the whole mouth with care.

It's International Pet Groomer Appreciation Day! We are so fortunate to have Katie and Breanna here to care for your feline's fur needs. Grooming can sometimes be cosmetic, but grooming can also be medically relevant. Hair matting can cause skin irritation and affect blood flow. Some cats have trouble keeping up with their grooming, so our team is happy to help step in and clean them with baths, sanitary clips, belly shaves, and more.

Yesterday, our friend Wesley here came in for his groom and enjoyed his spa treatment with a bath and sanitary clip while Dr. Jasmine took care of his medical needs- an annual wellness exam with bloodwork and his vaccines!

Announcement: Office closing at noon on Friday.

This weekend, our RVT, Kelsey, will be celebrating her wedding! In honor of the momentous day and in order to allow our staff to attend, we will be closing at noon on Friday, November 1st.

At Cat Clinic of Lafayette, we strongly believe in feline-friendly handling practices. Sabor is our own Licensed Veterinary Technician, Kelsey's, sweet old man. Sabor is featured here doing his favorite activity... eating, while getting a new bandage! Sabor needs frequent bandage changes after his surgery and we found we can handle this spunky old man without sedation by simply holding him up gently and feeding him canned food. We strive to work with every cat to ensure they are comfortable and safe any time they walk through our doors for any service, whether that be grooming, boarding, annual exams, or surgeries. Feline Friendly Practice is our passion and happy healthy cats are our goal!

Lucas the Maine Coon was 'blown away' by his grooming experience last week. This handsome boy received the spa treatment with a bath and pants trim. Afterwards, he showed off his beautiful fluff while our staff made sure that his luxurious coat was fully dried and brushed out. What a good guy! #Catober #Catgrooming #MaineCoonMonday #MaineCoon

Gastrotomy- RUBBER Mat Kitty

Here is the video to answer our question from yesterday (🚨Medical Content ALERT 🚨). That sweet little cat ate a piece of RUBBER from an exercise mat 🤦🏻‍♀️🐈 Luckily, Dr. Jasmine & team were able to maneuver the piece of obstructing rubber from the duodenum to the stomach. A gastrotomy, in most circumstances, is safer with less risk of complication than an enterotomy. This cat recovered well after presenting for acute vomiting. 🐱

Cat Clinic of Lafayette was just a dream to an overzealous veterinary student (me) at LSU School of Veterinary medicine. During my second semester of veterinary school, I learned feline exclusive veterinary clinics existed in New Orleans and Metairie. The shock of this realization was almost too much for a life long feline enthusiast to handle! After visiting these cat only practices, I was enlightened to what a calm, quiet environment created exclusively for cats could do for the species I had the greatest affinity for. I actually said the words out loud to my now husband “Why doesn’t Lafayette have one of these?” My path in veterinary medicine became clear: I would devote my career to cats and the people who love them.

For several years I worked as an associate veterinarian with board certified feline specialists at feline specialty hospitals in Tampa and Ormond Beach Florida. After working with thousands of cats per year, it was time for me to follow my dream of bringing this healing mission for cats back home.

Being back home means everything to me. After all, this is where I fell in love with cats in the first place! I am excited to bring this feline exclusive experience to the fellow cat lovers of Acadiana.
