Sweetie pie Daisy 🌼 just arrived this week for my “Fully Trained Dog” program, and is finally feeling well adjusted and excited to train! One of the reasons why I have a results-based dog training program, instead of cookie-cutter timelines, is because each dog needs a unique amount of time to warm up to my home and feel secure enough to train. If they are feeling too nervous to take food, training them is not as productive (or fun!). I want dogs to love their time training here, and that means being patient with them. ☺️💞

Does this sound familiar: Your dog grabs a shoe or one of your kid's toys, and takes off. They bounce around the house, taunting you and having the time of their life, oblivious to your building rage. 😂 Believe it or not, this really common behavior indicates a degree of "possessiveness" in your dog -- which is totally normal! However, possessiveness can escalate from annoying to more serious and aggressive if left unchecked or if responded to in certain ways. Learn how to spot possessiveness in your dog, manage it, and prevent it from becoming a serious problem in my new blog post.

I want to formally introduce Rufus aka Lamb Chop to my family! Little Lamb was found wandering the Central Valley, and was graciously rescued by a client’s dad. He got Rufus cleaned up, and gave him his first loving, safe home. He sent Rufus to me for some training, and ultimately decided to let Lamby stay. We are both incredibly grateful to the kind man who saved this little boy and changed both of our lives!! 💞💞🫂🫂 XOXO

Is it OK to allow your dog on your bed or couch? The answer is: yes-and. If you love having your dog on the couch and bed that is totally cool, and I am with you on that! Under certain circumstances, I would not allow a dog on the couch or bed. If you are struggling with your dog guarding resources or responding aggressively to you trying to get them off the couch, I would not allow them to get on the couch or bed until they receive some training and you receive some support. Dogs who guard resources or respond aggressively to you trying to get them off the couch or bed are not doomed to lay on the floor forever! What’s important is that you have the tools to manage your dog, and your dog has the training to be able to respect the boundaries you have in your household, and listen to you safely—even when they don’t want to. 🙂

Is this safe play? The real answer is, it’s impossible to tell from a photograph. That being said, seeing your dog’s teeth when they play with other dogs does not necessarily mean they are playing too aggressively. What’s important to watch for when you’re observing your dog playing with another dog, is how their behavior is received by the other dog. Some dogs love to play with rambunctious, physical, dogs, and other dogs prefer to play without much physical contact. Pairing your dog up with the right playmate is essential for creating safe and positive experiences.

It may look a little silly, but the e-collar works for little dogs too!! Little dogs thrive with free off-leash exploration and exercise just as much as big dogs. If you’re lucky enough to own an awesome little pup, you deserve to feel safe having your dog off-leash! 💞
