This is Pika. He is staying with us while his mom is training for a new job!
Pika is a lovely blue Doberman but as is common in Dobies, he has quite a bit of anxiety and shows slight indications of CCD. One of his anxiety triggers is unfamiliar environments. Luckily, Pika is no stranger to our home and weāre happy to give him a comfy place to lay his head while his mom finishes her training!

Your daily dose of Tina-Bean. Waiting at the threshold (the sun was in her eyes so she blinked), loose leash walking, and a beautiful sit while a dog passed in front of us AND a another was barking like crazy through the fence 2 feet away from her.

Scooter is here for one night of boarding. This is his favorite chair. This morning he discovered that it spins. I heard him barking and came downstairs to discover he had gotten himself trapped. ššš for a picture of trapped scooter.

George gets a little less nervous with each day that passes. He tucks the kids into bed every night. Went for a car ride with me (normally dogs ride in, and stay in crates but George made it very clear to me that he doesnāt do crates š). And got a good run in at the park. Good boy George!

Tina is here for training. She is a blonde bombshell of a golden retriever and has the sweetest personality!
Her naughties include excessive leash pulling, counter/table surfing, and invading personal boundaries.
She has already called PETA twice to report me for inadequate distribution of food rations.

As you may or may not know, I spend pretty much all of my spare time training search and rescue dogs. I write to you today doing a little shameless begging for donations to cover increased overhead costs to run the organization.

Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States (SARDUS) is a 100% volunteer based organization.
100% of your donation will be applied to overhead costs of running the organization, such as :
ā¢ K9 emergency medical bills related to missions
ā¢ Premium for the teamās workers compensation insurance policy that is held by the team to protect members while they are on a mission. (We have only had one injury in the past 15 years)
ā¢ maintaining incident command and missions communications equipment, navigation and satellite GPS equipment, etc.

Stanley is here for boarding for 3 weeks while his parents go visit friends and family in the UK. He has stayed with us several times and true to his MO, was being quite an emotional beast about it on day 1. Heās settling in now and his sassy ātude is shining through.

Barleycorn! Heās a goofy dude! Barley has a blue tongue but itās not because of his breed mixture. He has a blood disorder called methemoglobinemia (MetHb) which prevents oxygen from being released throughout his body as effectively as it should. It doesnāt affect him too much; some days heās a little more lethargic than others and takes more naps.

Advocate for your dog. Sheās scared of most people but she loves going out to meet new dog friends and rolling in the mud is her absolute favorite. Sheāll never be a āgo to a patio brunchā type dog but she doesnāt have to be. People have social boundaries, donāt force your dog to be something theyāre not.

I am a firm believer that once you give your dog their food, itās theirs; you shouldnāt go stick your hands in their bowl for no reason, donāt pet them, just leave your dog alone while heās eating. Would you like it if the server walked up and stuck is hands in your food after putting your plate down on the table? What about if someone were to start poking your cheek while you were chewing? HOWEVER! There could be a reason you may need to get to your dogās food after youāve already given it to them. Maybe a safety reason. Like you suddenly discovered rodent droppings or mold/mildew in their food (especially if you store your food outside or in the garage - hint: try not to store your food outside). Or you accidentally gave them the wrong food in a multi dog household. The list goes on. Train your dog to back off their bowl when you ask so that you can get to it safely. Avoid sticking your hands and face near the bitey end. **We are clearly out of practice with this drill because in the three reps I did, I was inconsistent all three times. The command is supposed to be āCJ, back offā. No wonder she had no clue what I wanted.** In this drill, after I put CJās food down and free her to go eat, I come back after a moment and ask her to back off her bowl. I will regroup and try again at lunch time and post an update video. Pro tip: start practicing this drill right away when you get a puppy or a new dog. Do NOT discourage body language from your dogs. If your dog growls at your child, do not tell your dog to stop growling, evaluate the situation and figure out what environmental factor was upsetting your dog. Body language is our dogsā only way of communicating with us and if we punish them for it, eventually someone will get hurt. Rottweilers are known for the Rottie rumble or Rottie grumble, especially when they are playing. Thatās NOT whatās going on here. CJ is telling Lego, āI donāt like what youāre doingā Sheās pretty patient with him but when he didnāt listen the first time she asked nicely, she escalated. She went from āPlease stop chewing on my faceā to āI said NO!ā After CJās correction Lego attempted to keep playing with her. At that point I intervened and removed him from the situation. Cosmo is our special needs pup. Heās got bad knees and hips so physical exercise is very limited which is tough on a terrier/whippet mix. Heās also very high prey drive and heās got high anxiety. PHEW! He is a savant at figuring out puzzles and loves learning. CJ is my rescue Rottie. Sheās friendly to dogs off leash; she has an amazing recall and solid place and crate commands that I can send her to from just about any where as long as she can find those locations.
