The day I tested the rifle out at the coldest temp so far this winter there were rolling blackouts. The first that I know of. Well, I forgot to post a link to that video when the power came back on.

Properly prepared with freeze-resistant grease, will the Fulton Armory M14 still function at 9 degrees Fahrenheit? Properly cleaned and lubricated with Tetra brand gun grease I set out to find out.

An M14, when properly cleaned and GREASED with Tetra Grease will function perfectly at 9 degrees. I set the rifle in the barn at 4am while it was still cooling down outside. At 5am I took it out and leaned it against the clothesline post. It finally got down to 9 degrees at about 9 am. So I grabbed the GoPro and headed down to my test site. I fired 3 rounds from the magazine that had been in the rifle, changed mags, and fired 3 more. Perfect functioning. Note both mags were MILSPEC not junk promags or no name crap. Springfield/CMI or stay-home folks, running 7.62x51mm NATO cartridges. What the rifle is designed to feed off.

So after returning the complete rifle to Fulton Armory they discovered that the hammer spur was striking the back of the bolt. Please remember, that I purchased the Barreled action and trigger group separately. So the folks at Fulton Armory were not able to test the two groups together. Like every other mass-produced item
on the planet, there are minimum and maximum specifications for each part. Apparently, the hammer was on the max side, and the bolt on the max gave no clearance. I am not sure. All I know is that on the third outing this Fulton Armory M14 Fired everything I carried with me, without a single hiccup. That includes the suspect lot of Wi******er M80 LC-21 and the same lot of Aguila 150 grain. Now if the operator wouldn't have F.N.G. moments and would relearn how to shoot in the prone it would have been perfect.
NOTE: FNG means Freakin New Guy.

So I got the rifle back from Fulton Armory and it runs like an Old Singer Sewing machine. Flat out a joy to shoot. The only issue was when I tried to fire it without chambering a round. Pure FNG mista

The second outing with my new Fulton Armory M14 was a frustrating head-scratcher. I could not figure out why the rifle ran 100% reliable with federal and fell flat on its face this time. Statue and I were baffled. As you will see some "DUD" ammunition in my rifle, reloaded into his fired just fine. Then when we swapped trigger groups it ran fine through the rest of a magazine. I think there were 8 more rounds. So I called up Fulton and returned the rifle to them.

Well as it turns out, ordering the trigger group then a few weeks later might not have been such a good idea. Statue and I were shooting Aguila 762 and the misfires with the Fulton got downright aggra

Start to finish except when I forgot to restart the camera. The day was jinxed I think. But in the end, the rifle ran great with Federal FC-19 ammunition.

Well after two dud rounds, the very first ones I tried. I decided to eliminate one item that may have been out of spec, The Stock.
So as a test I wanted to see if the barreled action and trigger group would function out of the stock. It did. Once back into the stock the rifle ran flawlessly with Federal FC-19 ammunition.

This one is for the NEW M1A M14 owner. The manual most often sent with new SA M1As is inadequate, to say the least. An M14-type rifle requires GREASE. Oil is not enough to prevent binding and you will have issues. Specifically, the Bolt roller, Locking Lugs of the bolt, the guideway for the left lug inside the receiver, the Op-Rod track on the right side of the receiver, the "HUMP" of the OP-Rod, The Op-Rod spring guide, the Spring and The Op-Rod Guide. Specific tools make the job of disassembling the rifle completely to clean and lubricate much easier. And in the case of the bolt safe.
This video illustrates the basic field strip but also illustrates the bolt disassembly tool and how it is used. As well as the gas system tools.
The Sadlak Gas Cylinder Wrench alone is worth its weight in gold. When you try field stripping a heavily used rifle where the gas plug has grown to the cylinder. That wrench and the M14 Combo tool are invaluable.

So I got out to the back 40 and try out my new Fulton Armory M14 and the fun begins. The first two attempts to shoot the rifle were duds. To my dismay. But in trying to problem solve I thought maybe the stock is not in spec because it is an SA stock. I took it out and assembled ONLY the barreled action and the trigger group and the NEW girl fired, extracted, ejected, reloaded, and was ready again. All while out of the stock. Concept proven.

New rifle, new M80 ammunition and I get a click. Then another. Change ammo and BOOM. The new Fulton Armory M14 runs but not on the bad lot od M80.

So I have been slacking on sharing here on Facebook. I have had the new FULTON ARMORY M14 for a few weeks. I had an issue with it and contacted Fulton and they got me squared away. This was the first video I made the day I finally laid hands on the Barreled Action. Note the trigger group was ordered 6 or 8 weeks before and the stock was from my first M14 type rifle, my SA Loaded Standard that now resides in a Sage International E.B.R. Chassis.

So the rest of my new Fulton Armory M14 Enhanced Service Rifle arrived this weekend and I got it Saturday.

I didn't take many pictures this time. But this outting was to test the MKIII tow rig for the cart. Let's just say ,back to the drawing board. Low profile camouflaged shelter and a cold camp being a necessity as I was close to a road and didn't want any attention. The new Fiskers folding saw worked very well. Had to retire the Sierra 180 saw after the nut the retains the pivot pin fell off to parts unknown.

In this video, Statue field strips a Springfield Armory Scout / Squad M1A. The Iron Maiden as I have christened it. The rifle is in a G.I. Fiberglass stock. A conventional stock. This is what most folks that own an M14 type rifle have their rifle in. Of course, nowadays there are a dozen or more options for stocks and chassis systems. Who can keep count of them all? So for the sake of those folks with a conventional stock I wanted to do this video to orient those folks. After all the Sage EBR chassis can be a bit disorienting at first glance.
Note: the 18-inch barrel length is the only difference from its 22" barrel brethren. There is less room to work with when cleaning the gas cylinder and plug but enough to get the job done.
Statue has been with me for the entire 20 years I have owned my M1A"OLE BETSY". Yet he has never owned one. So he didn't know how to quickly and easily take the rifle apart. After 8 or 10 times he did very well in the video. We will make sure he does it many more times to get it down pat. Watching him helped me as much as it helped him. Seeing it done from another perspective helped me see how it comes apart smoothly. Be a good student even as you teach and you will be a better teacher.
