We received some really special fresh and saltwater fish today including this awesome Red Leaffish. Also know as a Leaf Scorpionfish, these guys are best known for being ambush predators making them perfect for smaller tanks (with no other fish). Like other scorpionfish the Red Leaffish are venomous so stay cautious of their spines! Stop in to check out all the cool stuff we got in stock!

Have you had great success with Neocaridina shrimp? It may be time to try Caridina shrimp! They are known for their unique patterning and vibrant colorations although they require more attention to parameters in their home. They require an acidic pH and very clean tank to thrive long term. These Crystal red shrimp we received on Wednesday and their colors are 🤩 gorgeous.

Meet the extremely unique Banded Pipefish. These guys are known to be constant nibblers 🍽️, needing a constant food source requires a well established aquarium with plenty of micro crustaceans like Copepods and Brine Shrimp🦐 Banded Pipefish are found in weak current reefs in The Red Sea. These fish are not for your average reef tank, stinging anemones and crabs can easily attack them. Come check them out and see if they are right for you!

Do you have a saltwater or freshwater tank? Are you experiencing challenges? Algae issues, unexplained fish death, coral death, no coral growth? Well, if you are using tap water, you may need to look no further! The test shown is from our municipal water supply, straight from the tap!

Sure, you can “condition” tap water. It only goes so far. Best case scenario it detoxifies chlorine which is absolutely present. But, it does little to nothing for what you see below, which can definitely explain algae and animal death. The foundation and key to success in the aquarium hobby is WATER QUALITY! if the water you put in your tank for water changes or even evaporation looks like this, failure either sooner or later is almost certain. Let’s look at the individual parameters for the local tap water…..

Nitrate - nearly 10 PPM. While that alone is pretty good for both salt or fresh, it rarely goes down without a water change. As water evaporates, everything but H2O stays. So every time you add tap for evaporation, you are accumulating more nitrate. You are even adding nitrates back in when you do a water change.

Phosphate - .46 PPM. This is high for both fresh and saltwater tanks. While some nitrate and phosphate is good and needed, it can also be algae fuel when elevated to this level. Just like the nitrates, it’s only going to accumulate and the tap water is already too high.

Alkalinity (hardness) - 16.2 is off the charts for a saltwater tank which 7-12 DKH is safe. And this doesn’t include salt which only raises it more. Freshwater runs lower so this tap water is even more dangerous for those tanks.

PH - 8.24. While this is safe for a saltwater tank, it won’t be once salt is added. That will increase it out of safe limits. 8.24 is definitely out of what’s considered safe for freshwater. Let’s say you buy a fish in water that’s at 6.5 PH and yours is 8.24. You do a normal acclimation process and raise it to 7.25, then drop a fish in. That difference could be enough to shock a fish and potentially kill it.

The stunning Red Leopard Blenny is one of our all time favorites. Known for their gorgeous pattern and coloration these Blennys are found across the Indo-Pacific. These Blennys are “Obligate Corallivores” and love to munch on stony coral polyps so beware introducing one to your reef tank! 🪸🐠

The gorgeous Taeniatus Kribensis originating from the Ethiopian River in Nigeria. These Dwarf Cichlids can be territorial when breeding but generally get along well in community tanks with Tetras, Rasboras, Barbs, and Cory Cats!

Do not be fooled this is not a Yellow Tang, this little dude is a Mimic Tang. Gaining their name from their striking resemblance to the famous Yellow Tang these Tangs are in the Acanthurus family. Keeping their yellow coloration in their juvenile years they will eventually turn color as they mature! We only have two so get them while they’re still here!

Needing a sandsifter for your tank? Look no further than the Twin-spot Goby. Originally discovered in 1977 in the Oceanic country of Palau these gobies reach up to 3 inches. These gobies require an established aquarium that has plenty of arthropods to provide them with a constant food source.

Even though it’s getting warmer outside, our Rummynose Rasboras (or Sawbwa Barbs) are still rockin’ their distinctive red noses! These tiny swimmers bring a pop of color to any community aquarium. Originating from Myanmar in Southeast Asia these “micro predators” are actually extremely peaceful when fed the right diet and kept in a school. They can even be housed with Neocardinia Shrimp! We don’t have these guys often and when we do they sell pretty quick, make sure to stock up before they’re gone!
