I'm ready to find a special home for Chauncey. (Due to my age.) He is a very talkative and personable slender billed cockatoo. (Hatch 2002) He will have a long conversation with you and 'dance' to any music or song... just ask my clients who visit! He's the smartest bird in my house. However, his beak requires regular attention to maintain it. I hope to find a person who can devote the time and attention to this magnificent boy. His noise level is not a factor as he just has a cackle when excited...not a loud call. He loves to disappear into his hanging soft 'cozies' and he eats a variety of things including my bird muffins. I am interested in hearing from those that feel they can offer him the perfect permanent long term home. No breeders or 'collectors'. How’s this for a fun enrichment? Jonathan loves digging into a small piece of a paper straw that has a couple of safflower seeds inside. These were provided by his mom and I plan to try this for my conures. I’m always learning.

I purchased this activity block when I was out at Medical Center for Birds a few weeks ago. It has been a great enrichment for Maji. He has gnawed on it for a long time and it’s not gone yet. Irresistible but lasting…a nice combination.

Crunchies! My own version of Oven Fresh Bites. I used a coffee bean grinder and pulverized sunflower nuts, walnuts, oat groats, millet, oatmeal, coconut, & sesame seeds. Then I added flaxseed meal, cinnamon, coconut palm sugar, oat flour, and calcium carbonate. I made a mixture of eggs, flaxseed oil, molasses, and coconut milk. I added the wet mixture to the dry mixture and stirred it completely and then pressed the concoction onto parchment paper on a cookie sheet. I pressed down on it using the parchment paper to create a flat compacted "pie". Baked at 375 degrees for 40 minutes... After they cooled I used a sharp knife to cut them into small squares. I will boast that the birds here were the taste testers and they savored every bit. Success!

This little guy is one reason people fall in love with parrots. They are beautiful intelligent and entertaining creatures. They engage with you on a personal level and form a true relationship with you that’s different than with others in their life. One must earn their trust. Once that is established…they reside in your heart and you in theirs.
