As the year comes to a close, we want to give a massive shout out to the people who helped us in 2024!

We had so many wonderful volunteers, like Larry and Debbie Pitts and Amanda Buehler! They were truly incredible and helped us keep our dogs active! We would also like to thank our incredible fosters. Our fosters opening their homes up to our sweet dogs meant that not only did we have open kennels to pull more dogs in need, but their foster pups got to practice being pets! Whether you fostered for one day or one year, you have truly made a difference, and we appreciate you so much. Finally, we would like to thank anyone who donated or bought something off our amazon wishlist. We wish we could run solely on hopes and good vibes, but in this world, we run on donations. Gardner Newman Middle and several students did donation drives for us, and we're so thankful for that! We're also thankful for people like Jenna Bennett and John D. Ray, who bought things off of our amazon wishlist. Someone bought us a new sink faucet that we put on the wishlist, and you have no idea how happy that made us. The community came together for us this year, and we're so thankful for all of you.

Happy Holidays everyone, and we hope 2025 is filled with love from the community just like this year.

Hey LaGrange - Troup County! We want to hear from you!! As we move into the new year, what kinds of programs would you like to see in our community? What kinds of volunteer options do you find exciting and rewarding? Let's work together to make 2025 the Best Year Yet!!!

Hey everyone!

Tomorrow is a BIG day for a little dog rescue like us! Giving Tuesday is a wonderful way for everyone to get together and show how much we all care. In 2023, 3.1 billion dollars was raised in the US! If you want to join in, here are a couple of ways to help out!

MAKE A DONATION!
Obviously this is the biggest one, but donations are what keeps our organization alive. There are a few different ways you can donate.
🐾Monetarily: online (www.lagrangehumane.org/donate) or via check (made out to Lagrange-Troup County Humane Society and mailed to P.O. Box 1351, LaGrange, GA 30241)
🐾Buying something off our wishlist: https://a.co/cnasION (There are priority settings so you can see what we really need now!)
VOLUNTEER!
Volunteering is truly a fantastic way to help us out. Anyone 18 or older can volunteer, and people between the ages of 15 to 17 can volunteer with a parent present, so you can get your teens involved with doing something good! Everyone here started out as a volunteer, determined to help, so we promise you’ll be surrounded by friendly faces who have once been as new as you. Volunteers can do a couple of different things.
🐾Walk and play with dogs out in the play yard
🐾Vet runs: Simply pick up a vet envelope and the pup and head to our friends over at Lagrange Veterinary hospital at the scheduled time!
🐾Wrap presents: Help us and Santa's wet nosed elves wrap presents for Howliday Helpers!
FOSTER!
This holiday season, as the weather gets cold, we want to get all of our pups into foster homes. Imagine being Rio, a sweet lab mix who’s been a shelter dog for over a year. Imagine a cold holiday all alone. Now imagine being Rio, but this time at a foster home! Consider opening your home to a sweet pup to allow them the opportunity to be a pet for a little while (or maybe forever? Foster fails are very much welcome here.) The foster process is super simple!
🐾Fill out an application (three pages that mostly just say your house is safe)
🐾We do the foster home inspection (takes about 20-30 minutes)
🐾If all goes according to plan, you get the dog!
Fosters get a copy of the application, the dog’s medical records, and just about anything you might need!

This Giving Tuesday, consider giving to a small dog rescue that works hard to provide the best care and lives to homeless dogs in Troup county: us! For any questions, you can call (706)-415-1265!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends near and far! As we take a moment to consider all the things we are thankful for this year, we want to say an extra, "Thank You!" to our friends at the LaGrange Fire Department for being willing to take time out from their busy schedule to pose with some of our most adoptable pups!

Taking photos of dogs is NOT an easy art!! By the time we finally get the pup in the right position and take the photo... we usually get a picture of... well... part of the dog. It's just not quite the picture that we were hoping for. At this point, we have enough pictures of dog butts on our phone that it's starting to look a bit odd! LOL

But that didn't stop Olivia Bolt of Ivy & Grace Photography and Cassie Carpenter of Captured By Cass Photography from stepping up to donate their time and talents to help us with our 2025 Firemen and Pups Calendar, and we think they did a pretty amazing job!! Order your calendar today and check it out for yourself! All proceeds benefit the LaGrange Troup County Humane Society.

When you order on our website, we can ship it right to your door!! Or give us a call at (706) 415-1265 to schedule a time to come by our office (located inside the City of LaGrange Animal Shelter) at 1390 Orchard Hill Road and grab your 2025 Firmen and Pups calendar today!

Happy Howl-idays Friends!!

This year we are putting our paws to work raising funds so our human friends can keep helping us in our quest to find our fur-ever family! Of course, we'll have some help from some very special human helpers too! Bring us your holiday gifts and we will wrap them for you for a small financial donation to the LaGrange Troup County Humane Society. We'll have helpers on hand from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 14th and again on Saturday December 21st to get all your gifts wrapped and ready to go for your holiday gatherings!!

If you'd like to help support us, send us a text at (706) 415-1265 and let us know your name, which day works for you, and the approximate number of items you need wrapped, so that we can be sure to have enough helpers on hand.

You can drop your gifts off at the Purple Haired Realtor - Signature Property Group's office located at 101 New Franklin Road, Suite D LaGrange, GA 30240. (Please be sure you can drop off and pick up the same day!)

And, if you have extra supplies (wrapping paper, ribbon, tape, etc) that you can donate to help us save on the cost of supplies, they can be dropped off at the Humane Society office any time Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

We are located at:
1390 Orchard Hill Road
LaGrange, GA 30240

EDIT: Sorry the photos didn't attach properly, they should be there now!!

Hey everyone! We wanted to spotlight some of our smaller dogs. These pups are fully vetted and ready to go to their forever home today (with the exception of one very special pup)!

Moose - 3yrs - 24 lb -

Moose is a handsome boy who just wants someone to play and snuggle with! He’s tried to play with every dog we’ve introduced him to, but they don’t want to play with him. He’s genuinely a little angel who wants to be close to his people. He’s not crate trained, but we think this smart boy can figure it out with a little patience!

Cleo (AKA: Tippy) - 1yr 9mo - 29lb

This sweet girl LOVES to exercise! She is happiest when she’s swimming and playing with her friends! Only having three legs doesn’t slow this girl down one bit. If anything, she runs faster today than she did with all four legs. She loves a good snuggle and is learning commands really fast! Be warned, though, her puppy eye game is out of this world!

Layla - 11mo - 50lb

Layla is a total doll baby. She loves to run and play, and doesn’t mind bulldozing and being bulldozed by her friends! She doesn’t seem to get along well with other female dogs, and needs to meet everyone in the house before she’s adopted. She’s quite protective of her family, but does seemingly well when meeting others outside of the home. Her previous family said she loves hard chews and chasing the mice and the rabbits in the field, so we think she’d be great at whatever job she was given.

Louise - 2yrs - 31 lb

Poor Louise was dealt a pretty bad hand. She was heartworm positive. When she got treated for that, the vets found a mass on her back leg. The fantastic news is that this is not a death sentence! Louise will have surgery to remove the mass and will need follow up treatment for 3 months. She’s definitely a fighter, and we want to make sure she has somewhere nice and easy to rest and recover. Louise will need to be the only dog in the house so she can truly rest. We’re looking for a foster who is willing to be the soft place for her to land.

Louise is in our office and watching the door very closely to see if her foster or foster-to-adopt family is looking for her, too! Give us a call today if you'd like to meet her!! (706) 415-1265 or visit us online at www.lagrangehumane.org

This sweet girl is Louise! Everyone who's ever met her has absolutely adored her, so we're sure you will, too! Despite only being 2 years old, this poor girl has had a rough ride. This sweet angel was heartworm positive. When we took her in for treatment, our friends at The Lagrange Veterinary Hospital noticed a mass on her back leg. Louise has a Mast Cell Tumor (MCT) and needs treatment. After the surgery to remove the tumor, she'll need 3 months of follow-up treatment. We're so thankful that this diagnosis is not the end for Miss Louise!

Her treatment will be about $1500, and we run solely on donations. If you would like to donate, you can donate directly on our website at lagrangehumane.org/donate or send a check to P.O. Box 1351, Lagrange, GA 30241. If you would like to organize your own fundraiser for Miss Louise, please reach out to us! We would love all the help we can get.

Miss Louise will need a foster home during her treatment. A soft bed in a warm house is the perfect environment for her to heal. Please reach out to us if you're interested in fostering her! The foster program is super easy to get involved in! We come by and do a quick 15-20 minute foster inspection, have you sign some paperwork, and leave the dog with you! We provide just about anything they'll need and pay for all of their vetting while you're a foster. Once the pup is available for adoption, you'll be first in line to adopt them!

These two goofballs are Nui and Nani!

Nui and Nani are about a year old and are the silliest siblings imaginable. Despite their larger stature, these babies are still learning how to be more confident and trust other people.

Nui and Nani were found sitting on a rock on West Point Lake. We don't know if they were dumped or if they got lost, but we do know that they were scared. Nui would refuse to go somewhere if he couldn't be with his sister and would cower away from most men. Before Hurricane Helene hit, we were able to get them into a foster home with Shalet Wingo. Since being in their foster home, they've been doing better and better every day. They love other dogs, discovered sleeping on the bed, and are starting to realize that maybe people aren't all that scary.

If you are interested in adopting these sweet and silly angels, please reach out to us! We have TONS of photos and videos to show you how incredible they are.

10/16/2024

In the animal welfare world, we tend to focus so much on the dog or cat (or any other animal) that has been neglected, abandoned or suffered in any way, that sometimes we lose sight of the fact that they are not the only victim in the situation. Rocky's story is just such an instance. As we share his story with you, we ask you to please keep in mind that mental illness, a minor's involvement, and lack of education and resources has created a situation where both Rocky and his former family were victims.

Rocky is only about a year old, and for more than half of his life, he has lived outside on a chain that was affixed around his neck and locked with a padlock, whose key could no longer be located. His chain/collar could not be adjusted without that key so as he grew and grew, there was no (known) way to remove his chain/collar. Eventually, the chain grew into his neck.

Since the local authorities have stepped in to help, Rocky has had his chain surgically removed (and is healing nicely), has been fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and tested negative for heartworm. We appreciate all the help that came through for him with our friends at the Troup County Marshals Office, Animal Health Clinic, and the fine people at LaGrange Veterinary Hospital.

Rocky is ready to start a new chapter in his life. But he definitely skipped over a few of the usual puppy experiences, so now he needs YOU! He has SO much love to give. He is a very strong and very friendly +/- 50 lb. boy... what he lacks in discipline, he more than makes up for with his goofy personality and big heart. He is not housetrained. He pulls on his leash. He jumps around in the car. We're not going to pretend that he is the perfect family pet... at least not yet! If you have the time, the compassion, and the energy, this boy will surely blossom into the perfect best friend for his furever person.

If you would like to meet Rocky or have any interest in adopting or fostering this silly baby as he learns and grows, please reach out to us today!
