I am so happy to say that one of the guinea pigs that was dumped in a local petstore has found his forever home, complete with a wife! Of course, Burke is a shy guy, so they will help each other to be strong and confident:)

Our deepest condolences to the Sorjen family and those who were blessed to know her.
She was lucky to have such an amazing family in her last few years.

We have always supported our military families as MHIY was formed after a property was purchased after the ultimate sacrifice was made. We rent that property and are able to house the animals in our care in a heated and airconditioned building.
I am posting this video for those who know us and have come together to support MHIY and our family during unimaginable struggles all the while caring for the animals in our care without a single paycheck.
For 2 months, our son Christopher was in San Antonio Tx at BMT. I cannot imagine what he endured, and I do not want to take away from his experience. However, his leaving just 2 days after graduation was difficult. My heart felt unwhole, broken, missing a piece. I missed his jokes, our evening chats and his hugs.
I just wanted to share with you, the moment we were able to see our son after 8 long weeks (only 3 calls that entire time including the 2 min scripted call), and the moment our family was made whole again.
The moment his Aunt was able to witness him walking in his Uncles shoes and the moment he became a Guardian.

Just a friendly reminder....ti's the season for stasis!!! Please be sure to keep a close eye on your buns! Hair can cause blockage in the digestive tract, which can cause major issues for your bun bun.
To catch stasis early follow these steps
Change litterbox on a schedule (every day to every other day) so you know how much p**p is normal.
Look out for miss-shapen and/ or tiny p**ps as well as p**p strands or" pearls" (p**ps with hair holding them together in a line).
Make sure your bun is drinking enough water every day.
Look out for changes in personality, "cornering" (bun sitting in corner facing wall) and/or grinding teeth.

It is important to understand that as prey animals, rabbits do not show obvious signs of illness. By the time you see the slightest change, your bun has already been having an issue for up to a week.
If you have the slightest suspicion that your bun may be having an issue feel free to give a call (do not pm as the page is not the fastest form of communication in emergent situations) I am happy to look at p**p pics and give housing advice to minimize extra hair ingestion:)

As you all know, the price of literally everything from rent and electric to food and bedding has increased exponentially. I now work 2 jobs and still struggling to jeep the rescue afloat. I know our social media presence has been minimal, but rest assured I have been working like a wild woman to help so many unwanted and neglected small animals.
You all give me hope that this rescue will continue on and not fold under the HUGE demand for surrenders as the small animals purchased during covid continue to flood rescues all over the Hudson Valley.

FANCYMAN!!!! This tiny little timid bun found his true love! Her name is Liz! it was love at first sight!

We sent him off with a new haircut, mani pedi and a beautiful outlook on the rest of his life!!!

Munchy (was surrendered as Willow) has been successfully binded to sweet Reece! I don't always get it right, but 8/10 of my peeps are able to bond their rabbits after following my guidelines.. .Best part, the have a relationship with BOTH rabbits!!

We have received a few more donations from our Amazon wishlist and our chewy wish list!! Also a few new monthly donors and 1 time donors! I cannot even begin to express how much this means to us!! With the crazy increase in quite literally everything from rent, electric bill, vet costs and food and bedding, our current monthly donors only touch how much we spend every month.

We received a donation that has me in literal tears today.....we have been struggling as everything has almost tripled in price and I have not been on here as often as I used to be. We received toys and food for ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, sugargliders and hamsters, from our chewy wish list.
We also received a $5 Gift card from an anonymous donor.
There is so much going on , I really want to post more. Thank you all for your understanding as I try to schedule in social media between the 2 jobs, caring for 2 elderly parents and my family along with all the animals in our care!

At HVARS's Fall Festival!

Hope everyone is ok! Several trees down and they all just barely missed the animals. The driveway is a mess...but all the critters and people are safe .

I have a few Valentines that I am going to post ...but I just had to show you the challenge I was facing while making the new orders !!! Jed is making his presence known! Thank you Melanie S and Valerie L. for sponsoring Valentines!!!!

In case you have been wondering where I have been......our last rescue effort of 2022 has had me up to the wee hours of the morning working on socializing these tiny hearts :) Total of 19 plus Joey's in pouch. Currently, three males have been neutered and ready for adoption. All females on hold until pregnancy watch is over. Baby girls will be available soon. I posted 2nd video below in comments

Mama Chin had her babies!!!!

Looks like this mama chin from the Bronx rescue is sooo thankful that she is sharing her baby(ies) kicks with us. Any guesses on what day she will give birth and how many?

You guys are killing me! We haven't heard from Tractor Supply yet but the top 4 winners are to be announced on the or about the 27th...which is tomorrow! While we are praying we have a shot at this, we have been working hard to continue to help as many animals as we can. We have a few more Guinea pigs, 4 rabbits and about 8 more chinchillas coming. We hope this grant can assist with this, however, we are asking all of you to consider donating toward spay/neuter and other medical costs that are upcoming. We have been told by so many that our supporters are truly #1....and I cannot agree more! You all keep this rescue running! It's your support! You all are just as much a part of MHIY as I am. Thank you all for your prayers. He made it through the night and will be goingbhomevtoday with gi stasis meds from the vet! (he had water bowl in the carrier but preferred the bottle....crazy dude) Whew!!

Medicating Koosh.... lots of fun! This happens 2x a day. Haven't heard from me? It is because most of the day I am cleaning, feeding or medicating :) Phone call is easiest almost all the time :)

MEDICAL UPDATES I lost one of rhe abandoned/neglected sugargliders. The second one is now off subq fluids and eating/drinking on its own. We will get to Dr. Santiago soon. Silken the sugarglider went in for xrays and we were able to confirm she has a deformity that causes her eye to sink in. Her eye is perfect otherwise. Koosh the hedgehog has a condition that over produces a sebaceous substance that has caused infection. He is on a round of antibiotics in hopes of saving his leg. His tail is looking great now! Cobe, one of the 12 babies rescued from a shed upstate, was diagnosed with megacolon. It looks like most of the babies and sweet mom have it too. This is not something that can be cured but rather managed. They will need special homes and special food during their time here. This does leave my heart very heavy. The chinchillas from the city are a sight to be seen. of 12 rescued only 8 were left when I got down there. I picked up 2 babies, 2 adults and 3 juveniles from the looks of things. While there is a mama chin attempting to care for the tiny baby, she does not have milk. I am feeding the baby but allowing the mom to stay with for comfort for both of them. We had several samples taken. No mites were found and hair shafts completely intact. We cultured for fungus and will have results 5-10 days. I am doing my best to respond to everyone but I have multiple critters that must come first. Thank you all who have donated ....this has been a really rough start to the month!
