Doesn’t stainless steel corrode with cat urine?

This is one of the most essential questions to ask when considering any type of stainless steel product.

All stainless steel products appear similar in its quality and finish that many brands get away with low grade stainless steel products.

So what are the different grades of stainless steel and how can one identify a low-grade stainless steel?

201 Stainless Steel: Most inexpensive and commonly used grade for restaurant/ kitchen supplies. Lowest-corrosion resistance, meant to be replaced, made with a thin steel sheet and dipped in a chemical bath to slow down corrosion which is how they get the perfectly smooth pearly matte finished surface. Product description would say - “Stainless Steel” without specific grade, “High-Quality Stainless Steel” “Food-Grade” “Metal” “No rust”

304 Stainless Steel: Most commonly used grade by Original Equipment Manufactures and reputable brands such as All-Clad, Yeti, Breville, and Miele. High-corrosion resistance, meant to last a lifetime. Surface is either mirror-like, brushed or imperfect with natural scratches. Product description would say- 304 or 18/8 Stainless Steel

316 Stainless Steel: Also known as Surgical and Marine grade, used in biomedical implants, marine environments and making Swiss watches. 316 is even more corrosion-resistant than 304 in both alkaline and acidic environments which makes the most appropriate stainless steel grade for managing concentrated feline waste. This is why Less Litter Box is made of 100% solid 316 Stainless Steel.
