I promised myself I would do a better job this year of finding homes for my adoptable dogs. The time has come to make good on that commitment.
I suppose all my dogs could be considered “adoptable”—my goal is to focus on the ones that I think would be happier in less hectic environments.
And you can rest assured that if I’m posting about them—then they meet all the criteria as it relates to not being a “problem dog.” I’ve accepted the fact that I’m stuck with the ones that would present challenges to a different owner.
I have a couple of senior dogs that I’ll post about in a few days, but I’m going to start with a group of youngsters that includes Phoebe, Thelma, Abby, Brody & Gilda.
If you’re looking for a high energy dog to accompany you on outings and expeditions…then Phoebe would be a perfect fit. She is approximately three years old…spayed and very healthy. Gets along well with other dogs…and I believe would fare well with cats. She’s not aggressive in any way….just a little hyperactive. But I have no doubt that she would quickly adapt to any new situation.
Thelma is at the top of the list of dogs who I think would be happier in a quieter home . She has accepted her place in the pack since her arrival….but I can tell she doesn’t like being an underling to the more dominant dogs that she has to co-exist with. I’m guessing that she’s around four to five years old…and you can see a little of Rottweiler coloring in her fur…but she’s a medium sized dog that weighs around 40 pounds.
Abby looks like she might have come from the same litter as Phoebe…but they came to me at different times from different locations so I know that they’re not related. And while Phoebe is confident and assertive…Abby is a little timid and shy. She would do better in a situation where she was the only dog or possibly paired up with a male. She too is not aggressive, spayed and very healthy.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that Brody is “Service Dog Smart.” It will break my heart to see any of them go…but particularly Brody. He’s a black lab that tries so hard to please me—and I’ve made great progress in training him with only a minimal amount of effort. The way I see it…whoever would end up adopting him should consider themselves lucky to be given the gift of a wonderful dog. He’s an intact male about two years old..also in very good health. There are times when I wish he was my only dog…and I know that I’m just being selfish if I stand in the way of him realizing his full potential with a loving family.
Gilda came to me as a special needs dog along with her sibling Gene. She’s a German shepherd that I’m guessing is between two and three years old. Both of them were basically feral when they were rescued by Fort Worth Animal Services in 2021. But while Gene still requires intensive care…Gilda is reaching a point of maturity and acclimation where I would feel comfortable in her being adopted. She is very playful and gets along well with all of my other dogs. She too is spayed—and other than the deformity of her tail—is in overall good health.
You can contact me here on FB or on the LAST Resort website at www.lastresorttx.com if you want to know more. There will be a small adoption fee, and I will help with the travel arrangements for anyone living outside of my immediate area. Thanks for reading this…please share it with anyone that you think might have an interest.
