Thanksgiving Closure Announcement 🦃🍂
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, our hospital will be closed on November 28th and open half day (8-12) on Black Friday, November 29th! We’ll resume normal hours on Monday, December 2nd. Please make sure to pick up any medications or food ahead of time, and remember to keep your pets safe during the holiday!

Last but certainly not least, the heart and soul of Southside, Dr. Michelle Traylor‼️

“I always knew I wanted to be a veterinarian. I grew up surrounded by dogs and cats, and some of my favorite memories are taking them to the vet.

I am a native of Lake Charles and went to McNeese for my undergraduate studies, and attended the LSU Veterinary School. After graduating in 2002, my husband (Matt, also a veterinarian with the USDA) and I lived a couple of places before returning home to Lake Charles. We have 2 children, Reed and Reagan, who both have shown no interest in becoming veterinarians! We have a dachshund named Birdie, and 2 cats named Peaches and Emma. In my free time, I love to exercise and read. Matt and I also like to travel around the country to visit our national and state parks, and go scuba diving when we can!

My favorite part of being a veterinarian is watching pets grow through life, from puppies/kittens to adults and seniors, hoping that I have made a positive impact in their lives and the lives of their owners!”

Dr. Kohler grew up in Lake Charles, attending St. Louis Catholic High School, and moved to Baton Rouge to attend LSU for undergrad and Veterinary School. After graduating, she began practicing at Gill Bright Animal Hospital with amazing mentors and staff. Her time at Gill Bright confirmed her love of animal care and she looks forward to continuing to have a positive impact on Southwest Louisiana at Southside Animal Hospital! Her interests include soft tissue surgery, dentistry and educating pet parents to improve the quality of life of their pets. She’s passionate about enhancing the bond between us and our furry loved ones! She and her husband, Andrew, have two fabulous daughters and two wonderful pups. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, socializing, and staying active with her family and friends!

Reagan, the newest addition to our veterinary team, has quickly become an invaluable asset. With her natural aptitude for animal care, she's not only mastering the ropes at our clinic but also excelling in her pre-vet studies.

Outside of work, Reagan's vibrant personality shines through. She loves spending time with friends, cuddling with her adorable corgi, Chunk, and enjoying time with her new Phi Mu sorority sisters. Her passion for helping animals is evident in her work, as she finds immense joy in providing care and comfort to those who can't speak for themselves.
