Winston is a 1 1/2 year old labradoodle. He has been enrolled in our board and train program for almost two weeks and he is looking pretty good. He is a typically fearful dog but building confidence is what we do. He is doing well with his obedience cues and learning better manners.

Meet Lola, an adorable 7-month-old French Bulldog, currently thriving in our 3-week board and train program! We're focusing on helping Lola settle down for her owners, and she's making amazing progress. The flirt pole is proving to be an excellent tool for burning off her energy and honing her impulse control. Keep up the great work, Lola!

This precious little girl is Belle, aka Belle Bottoms. She is a 16 week old poodle enrolled in our board and train program. We are working on potty training, puppy biting, and basic obedience. So far we have introduced sit, touch, leave it, place, down, stay, and come. She is struggling with down unless paired with placing on her bed. She is such a smart pup and eager to please so I know she will get it.

Ross is an adopted 1 yr old Beagle/Pitt mix. He is fearful and reactive. We started off managing his environment, getting with his veterinarian for medication, started muzzle conditioning, and initiated a behavior modification plan. He is showing improvement after two sessions and can’t wait to see him progress. His mom is 100% committed and her commitment makes this process so much smoother.

Good Morning Everyone! Say hello to Phoebe. She is a golden doodle and she had several issues when we started training. The dynamics of her family changed and she had a pseudopregnancy. Those changes caused her to become fearful, anxious, and very stressed. With the help of her veterinarian, our training sessions, and Black Bayou Boarding - Boarding Daycare Grooming Bus daycare, her confidence is soaring. Our first two sessions I couldn’t touch Phoebe, her fear was through the roof. Now she comes up and just presses against me and wants all the love. Our training journey isn’t over and I am so excited to continue working with her!

Harper and Scout our French bulldogs in private training with Darla. Scout tends to resource guard and this causes fights between the two dogs. We have been using management and behavior modification as well as basic obedience and these dogs have been fight free for a few weeks. We still have a way to go, but they are improving weekly.

Say hello to Beatrice, aka Bea! Beatrice is a 5yr old Australian cattle dog mix. Prior to our board and train Bea’s outings were limited due to leash reactivity. She was unable to play with other dogs because mom was unsure of her behavior. As a pup Bea was well socialized until a group of dogs ran up on her and cornered her. TJ did an excellent job rebuilding her confidence, building her focus in public, and creating new opportunities for her and her mom.

Elyse is a precious golden doodle. She has a bit of littermate syndrome. It has taken us a little while to help build her confidence. We needed her to be less dependent on her sibling. In the beginning of her training, when we tried to do anything with her she would run and hide, try to get by her sister, or simply just disengage with us. She still has her moments where she will shut down, but will quickly reset. I am so proud of her. She is such a smart pup and just needed to be a little more independent!

Technically it makes sense to want to tell our dogs not to p*e/poo in the house. The only problem is that dogs don't connect the punishment the way we'd hope.

When a dog p*es in the house and then a human screams, rubs their nose in it or smacks them, the connection that the dog makes is that it's not fun or safe to p*e in front of their human. This leads to what we call "reverse house training." This is where dogs will actively avoid going in front of their human and end up going in back bedroom or the closet.

Reverse house training can even happen accidentally for dogs that are more sensitive. More sensitive dogs may get startled easily when their human is trying to scoop them up to get outside.

Accidents will happen. Focus on sticking to a schedule, supervising closely to look for signs that your dog needs to go out and reinforcing heavily with high value treats.

If you have a reverse house training situation going on, there is hope. It's just harder to get the momentum going.
