Lars, Yvonne and the entire Horses Without Humans Rescue Organization staff are about to get hit again. Please help if you can. Pray for their safety and the safety of the horses.
It has only been 10 days since Hurricane Helene hit. It was the worst that we have experienced. Now we prepare for Milton.
We wish that we could say we are ready, but we are not.
Yvonne is tired. George is tired. The staff is tired. We haven't even begun to recover from the last hurricane, physically or financially. But here we are again. We put up 56 fence posts and over a hundred boards to repair our damaged fence lines, just since last week. We removed 27 truck loads of debris and the two big trees that came down still need to be moved. Our barn still has a gaping hole in the roof and is in need of replacement.
We know there is much worse elsewhere. Folks have lost everything, so how can we possibly compare our situation to theirs? Our hearts go out to them and we are grateful that our horses, staff and family members have been spared.
Sadly, each hurricane forces us to use valuable resources that further drain our already fragile budget to do what repairs we can. Making matters worse, people are hardly thinking about adopting horses when their lives are in chaos after a hurricane. Therefore, we have no money coming in from adoption fees. Those fees are what we use to feed the other rescue horses in our care. Donations are desperately needed.
The weather is telling us that Milton should hit around Tampa, but it could center higher depending on many factors. Anything above, or even near Tampa will affect us and could do significant damage (AGAIN). The winds are going to be much worse than Helene, so once again, we are doing our best to prepare.
Today, we ask for your prayers for the safety of our people, our horses and for our already battered facility.
If you live in another part of the country, and are not currently affected by these storms, please consider a donation to help us or another animal rescue organization in Florida or one of the other affected states. Your support may make the difference of weather a Rescue can survive and rebuild, or give up and close its doors.
We thank you for your well wishes and prayers
Stay safe and we will see you on the other side of hurricane Milton.
