Commitment

That is truly what it takes to make it in this, or any, business.
This young man, Lars Biedenbender has it. In spades.

He shows up. Works hard. Makes mistakes, learns from them, tries again. He is dedicated, another necessity.

Since becoming a working student here two years ago Lars has earned his bronze and Silver medals, has learned to start young horses in a positive manner and is now working on finishing his own horse Jerry to the Grand Prix.

I am so proud to be part of this young man’s journey!

Cheers to you Lars!

Here are some great pictures of Lars Biedenbender Horsemanship, riding Jerry, and his teammate Eva Farrell, riding Rip, from KYB Dressage. This was a fabulous learning opportunity for them as they prepared to compete in the Under 25 Grand Prix. Spanish Olympic rider Juan Manuel Munoz Diaz conducted this clinic at the Iberian Festival in Ocala last week..

So thankful Lars and all his horses are ok. Heartbroken for those who lost so much.

So so lucky!

I am a bit torn about celebrating Milton sparing us. Sad to even write about any perceived fortune when such utter devastation has literally surrounded us these past weeks.

But I am happy and grateful.

Our group was tired. No actually weary. We were kind of afraid of what sort of punch Milton might deliver. We have been cleaning and repairing for weeks since Helene and we were not really ready for another punch by Mother Nature.

We were spared. We have power. Minimal damage. Our horses staff and pets are safe and accounted for.

We stayed up last night waiting for the worst and it never came. Here. But so so many were not lucky. 35 folks in an elderly community in Spanish Lakes are confirmed dead. Buildings demolished, homes were destroyed. Milton passed our humble rescue by, left our precious horses surrounded by their ancient fencing and our not finished barn roof alone.

We can help others if they need it for once!

We do need these good stories though. Even amongst the bad. We need the happiness. The gratefulness. We did not expect the damage Helene brought to us and we were all a bit scared of Milton bowling over us like Helene did.

Three million people in Florida are without power. Not us. Our water works, our roof held up, our horses are all where we left them last night.

Thank you lord for watching over us.

Lars, Yvonne and the entire Horses Without Humans Rescue Organization staff are about to get hit again. Please help if you can. Pray for their safety and the safety of the horses.

It has only been 10 days since Hurricane Helene hit. It was the worst that we have experienced. Now we prepare for Milton.

We wish that we could say we are ready, but we are not.

Yvonne is tired. George is tired. The staff is tired. We haven't even begun to recover from the last hurricane, physically or financially. But here we are again. We put up 56 fence posts and over a hundred boards to repair our damaged fence lines, just since last week. We removed 27 truck loads of debris and the two big trees that came down still need to be moved. Our barn still has a gaping hole in the roof and is in need of replacement.

We know there is much worse elsewhere. Folks have lost everything, so how can we possibly compare our situation to theirs? Our hearts go out to them and we are grateful that our horses, staff and family members have been spared.

Sadly, each hurricane forces us to use valuable resources that further drain our already fragile budget to do what repairs we can. Making matters worse, people are hardly thinking about adopting horses when their lives are in chaos after a hurricane. Therefore, we have no money coming in from adoption fees. Those fees are what we use to feed the other rescue horses in our care. Donations are desperately needed.

The weather is telling us that Milton should hit around Tampa, but it could center higher depending on many factors. Anything above, or even near Tampa will affect us and could do significant damage (AGAIN). The winds are going to be much worse than Helene, so once again, we are doing our best to prepare.

Today, we ask for your prayers for the safety of our people, our horses and for our already battered facility.

If you live in another part of the country, and are not currently affected by these storms, please consider a donation to help us or another animal rescue organization in Florida or one of the other affected states. Your support may make the difference of weather a Rescue can survive and rebuild, or give up and close its doors.

We thank you for your well wishes and prayers

Stay safe and we will see you on the other side of hurricane Milton.
