It’s those BEFORE FRIDAY FEELS! 🙌🏻

We are only scheduling technician appointments tomorrow, Friday, August 16th! A technician appointment is when your pet needs veterinary services that do not require the attention of a veterinarian. Technician appointments are usually faster than doctor exams, and can often be usually scheduled on a shorter notice.

During the appointment, we will bring your pet back to the treatment area to perform the service. We’ll take great care of your pet while they are in our care, and make sure they feel safe and relaxed. Once the service is completed, we’ll bring them back out to the pet owners in our lobby/vehicle. Our technicians will update you on how your pet did in the treatment area, and bring anything to your attention that might need follow-up with a veterinarian appointment.

Kimura came in today for a quick tech appointment with us administering a Kenalog injection! 💉

•Kenalog, known generically as triamcinolone acetonide, is a type of corticosteroid medication used in veterinary medicine to manage various inflammatory and immune conditions in dogs. Its application spans a variety of uses, such as treating allergies, skin conditions, and arthritis. Notably, Kenalog injections offer a targeted approach to therapy, often preferred for their potent anti-inflammatory effects and relatively sustained duration of action compared to oral steroids.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Columbia County Public Works is Prepared for Potential Storm

August 2, 2024

(Columbia County, FL) The Columbia County Board of County Commissioners and employees are preparing for the upcoming possible tropical storm. We are in the potential projected path of this storm as of the Board briefing today at noon. River flooding is a major concern for the northern and southern ends of the county.

Public Works has activated its pre-storm response efforts. Beginning at 7AM, August 3rd, sandbags will be available at Columbia County Public Works, 607 NW Quinten Street, Lake City, South Columbia County Sports Complex – Fort White Community Center, 17579 SW State Road 47, Fort White, FL 32038 and the Southside Sports Complex, 1963 SW Bascom Norris Drive, Lake City, FL 32025. Sandbags will be limited to 15 bags per vehicle. Pickup will be available Saturday 7AM until 7PM and Sunday 7AM until 5PM or the beginning of the storms.

Currently, all County owned retention ponds are being pumped down to aid in possible flooding during the storm. Please make all efforts possible to prepare your family and your home for any potential flooding in the area.

Remember, if citizens have an emergency, they should call 911 to request City, County, or EMS first responders.

The importance of Spaying & Neutering:📋

Spaying or neutering increases your pet's chances for a longer, healthier life. Some common health concerns that spaying/neutering helps to address include:

•Uterine infection: Known as a pyometra, this is a potentially life-threatening condition that can be very expensive to treat. It is 100% preventable if your pet is spayed.

•Mammary Tumors (breast cancer): Over one-half of all mammary tumors are malignant and can spread to other areas of the body. Spaying reduces the risk of these tumors.

•Testicular Cancer: This cancer, as well as prostatitis (an infection causing malignant or benign swelling of the prostate), can be greatly reduced with early neutering.

Spaying/neutering also can help with behavioral problems such as dominance, aggression, marking territory, and wandering can be avoided with spaying or neutering.

There are many reasons to consider spaying/neutering your pet. It is also the biggest tool we have to help fight the problem of overpopulation.

⛈️Thunderstorms are here⚡️

It’s that time of year again! With the storm season barely underway, it’s time to talk about noise phobia in our pets that can contribute to anxiety during thunderstorms.

If your dog has previously needed medication to help with their anxiety of storms and fireworks, don't forget to give us a call for a refill.🐾

If you believe your pet may be starting to experience some anxiety with storms, give us a call to discuss options on how to help them cope.

For some pet owners, this can be a very stressful time of the year. Many dogs have thunderstorm or firework phobias. Noise phobias constitute a serious progressive disorder for which treatment should be initiated as soon as it’s noticed. In no way should even the slightest sign of discomfort be discounted as normal. Dogs who hide, pace, shiver or become destructive should see a veterinarian for a consultation.

Steps can be taken at home to change the environment and make it more inviting for pets to seek shelter. If modifications in the home do not help, scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian is recommended as they may prescribe medication for your pet to help further reduce its anxiety and fear of noises.
