Big day yesterday at Mahan Farm for The Barn girls! We traveled to Tallahassee for Alaina / Savvy + Kam / Mercury’s first CT and 3 phase!

A lot of learning, a lot of fun and a lot of great rides by both girls!

Results:

Alaina and Savvy : 1st in starter CT, 4 and 6th in 2’3 jumpers

Kam and Mercury: 8th in starter eventing, 3rd in 2’6 jumpers

We also got to see our very own forty and his new rider Maddie!! Who took home a 3rd and 5th in 2’3 jumpers for their first trip out together. So fun to watch!

Looking forward to many more in the future and hopefully bringing along some of our younger riders to future events!! 🐎

Monday update!

We are still without power but we have a generator running the well thanks to Matthews Electric and we have began clean up thanks to Brent Lyons & Fueled outdoors! Can we all agree that hard times make you extra thankful to be loved by great men?

If you need help with anything electrical give them a shout at 386-344-2029 and Fueled Outdoors off highway 90 (386-438-5540) has all your saws, generators and clean up needs covered 🤍

🐴 Lessons are back on as scheduled for the week

Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early as horses won’t return to stalls until power is restored so you might have to walk a bit to catch your ride unless you get lucky and they’re at the front gate thinking it’s feeding time 😎

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to check on us at the barn! Unfortunately I have ZERO service unless in town so I apologize if I haven’t responded.

We are all safe. We have extensive tree damage but none of our main structures were damaged, thankfully! At this time lessons will be suspended until we can restore power for water to be able to make sure horses can be properly cared for after being ridden.

We are working on getting this taken care of within the next couple of days / hopefully power is restored before then.

We will reach out to keep everyone updated about scheduled lessons best we can.

Thankfully this storm had little rain so we are NOT flooded.

Prayers for everyone affected and we appreciate everyone’s support and love for our barn family and horses 🤍

Eventing, jumpers, polocrosse, lessons, summer camps, trail rides...if you’re looking for your lesson program, next show pony, recreational ride or all of the above; she fits the bill.
3 smooth and rideable gaits. Barbie knows both her leads. Simple changes. More of a kick ride but will happily move forward if the rider is capable and asks her to do so. Very versatile little darling!

No buck, spook, bite or stable vices. She is tidy in her stall but is happily turned out 24/7 as well. Barefoot, sound and UTD on vaccines with no maintenance required.

Same horse for every ride even if you’re only a weekend rider.

Owner has lost interest in riding so she is looking for her next person to love!

We are so beyond excited to welcome one of our new instructors, Carol Ogden, to our Barn Family!

Carol has a list of accolades too long to list but some highlights include:

** Taught riding lessons at Camp Bobbin Hollow in Amherst, MA (The USA’s 2nd highest rated horsemanship camp), working with beginner and intermediate riders during the summer and winter months after college.
** Showed hunters/jumpers since 1959. Was an organizer and president of the local hunter/jumper association in Gainesville, Fl. for 9 years. Still judges hunter shows, 4-H shows, and Pony Club Show Rallies.
** Competed in Florida’s first combined training event at Gold Leaf Farm in 1974.
** Has brought two horses along through Preliminary level. Ima Showboat was evented at Preliminary level as well as shown as an Open Hunter concurrently before his untimely death in 1989. Her grey Thoroughbred, After Dark, was Area III Training Champion in 1993, and in 1998 was Area III’s Preliminary Champion as well as AHSA Zone 4 Preliminary Horse of the Year.
** Her horse, In Rhythm, won the Area III Novice Championships in 2004, and in 2005 was Overall High Score Senior Training Horse in Area III, and ranked 5th nationally. Carol was ranked #2 nationally as Master Training Rider in 2005.
** Her current horse, Get Smart, is an OTTB who raced until he was 9, and is now in training to event.
** Founded the Florida Horse Trials Assn., Inc. in 2003 to promote eventing in Florida. (see website www.floridahorsetrialsassn.com)
** Currently is a licensed Technical Delegate for USEA/USEF.
