A builder I am NOT, However my motivation overrides my experience and knowledge in that department AGAIN.

Just completed 2 "beyond the brooder" quail chick stacker cages. I didn't have any pens suitable to separate by color or type, so I had to come up with a solution ASAP.

I believe this picture represents how far I've traveled on my Coturnix Quail Journey.

If you are a long term follower, you'll remember 4 years ago I was beating the bushes looking to purchase any and all quail eggs for my voracious Crafting Appetite.

Now my own little operation provides me far more than I can keep up with. Not too bad of a dilemna to have.

4 years in: I now have steady hatching/eating egg customers, bird dog and reptile owners on board, meat and breeding bird customers, and my own dogs are happily consuming quail eggs regularly (look that up-its a great nutritious treat).

These little birds can certainly PROVIDE.

What I'm now circling back to (and the purpose of this post) is offering Craft eggs in the very near future. Heck it's WHY I started this journey in the first place.
Quail Eggs in picture are blown eggs, thoroughly sanitized and dried, with sealant on the inside and also gloss sealant on the outside, making them pretty darned sturdy and allowing them to last for several years.

Will post availability when I'm done refreshing my own private stash as I have CRAFT plans I can't wait to share. Standby!

Today I'm hunkering down, quartering and packaging the meat chickens I raised for the 2nd year in a row.

Yesterday my battle buddies and I processed the 66 eight week old hens we had raised between us.

So very thankful to fill my freezer again!

Large standard/Jumbo Coturnix Quail (traditonal colors and patterns)

#4 hatch- middle of next week will have Jumbo Pansy, Jumbo Ginger Pansy, Jumbo Ginger, and Red Range/Tuxedo Celadon. Hoarding the Jumbo Roux Celadon from this upcoming hatch sorry. Maybe hatch #5 I'll have some extra.

Coturnix quail followers: it's GO time!

I picked up some Bobwhite quail eggs from a field trial dog breeder/judge to incubate for him. He wasn't sure on fertility but if all goes well, I should have a few extra chicks if anyone is looking (early July).

And that has prompted me to send a trial run of my own 'unique' color/pattern Coturnix through the incubator for the first time.

Wow. This has been an incredibly long process. Sitting on a waiting list since November 2024, incubating those eggs, raising them to 10 weeks old and we are FINALLY here.

Heading into the incubator:
Jumbo Ginger
Jumbo Ginger Pansy
Red Range/Tuxedo Celadon
Jumbo Pansy
Jumbo Celadon (Roux)

I also grouped some of my own traditional patterned jumbo hens with males from the list above for future project birds. Lots to sort out at hatch.

I have hatch #3 of large standard/Jumbo eggs going into lockdown tomorrow if anyone needs day old chicks over the weekend.
Also hatch #2 there are a few left, now 12 days old.

-1 week old large standard/Jumbo chicks available as Straight Run. Pick a handful or take the remaining whole hatch for a discount.

-3 week old large standard/Jumbo chicks just coming off heat. Most that remain are not feather sexable-sold as straight run (several color and patterns still available). Same as above, choose a handful or take the remaining whole hatch for a discount.

-8 birds ready for the freezer Special. Fully mature and ready to be processed.

1 breeding group of FIVE large standard/Jumbo hens and one male.
Hens were hatched 9/24, no supplemental light thru winter. Now prolific layers. Each hen a different color or pattern. One 10 week old Ginger Pansy male included.

Going on a deep dive for really good pickled quail egg recipes.

Tried this one I found recently and it's CRAZY good:

Mix 3 cups vinegar with 1/4 cup sugar and 1 Tablespoon Pickling Salt (stir until all dissolved).

Into a quart jar:
Hard boiled quail eggs
1 tsp dill w**d
1/2 tsp mustard seed
1/2 tsp whole black peppercorns
2 cloves garlic
1 bay leaf
Sliced onions

**Stay out of it as long as you can so eggs will mingle (this I failed at and started eating them within 5 hours)

My "2025 Course Correction" Coturnix quail I purchased as eggs from 2 well respected breeders in early spring are almost 10 weeks old.

Pictures represent the difference between my red range celadon (standard coturnix) and one random Jumbo Coturnix egg.
Considering the average for standard eggs is 9-12 grams and jumbo is 12-16 grams, I'd say I'm on the right track.

I should have chicks and hatching eggs available from this group by early July.

I DO have large standard and jumbo chicks available and hatch #3 brewing in my incubator. Will be in lockdown late next week.

If you know of anyone looking for some little prolific egg layers, send them my way!

It's finally complete! The two year process of significantly increasing my garden space for more self sufficiency is now in the rear view mirror.

This morning I tweaked a few water lines, and added the remaining plants and seeds that have been patiently waiting in the windowsill for me to finish the irrigation system.
BY FAR the coolest thing I have ever built myself without question.
Highly recommend. 5 stars!

It's Hatch day!

#2 hatch-large standard and jumbo mix Coturnix Quail (traditional patterns and colors).

Finally in "full operation" and chicks will be hatching through fall.

Celadon, Jumbo Pansy, Jumbo Ginger Pansy, Jumbo Celadon and Ginger Hens are just starting to lay eggs. Coming soon!
