Louie's First Field Trip! 🙌🏻

Louie's Guardian has been Excited & a Little Nervous about this Next Stage of Louie's Training! Louie has been known to Vocalize Non-Stop during New Experiences & his Guardian was Concerned that would happen again. It Did...

Louie is a Psychiatric Service Dog...in Training & for his FIRST New Indoor Environment, He Did Well! His Guardian was Worried about his Focus -- or Lack of Focus. As I Listed Louie's Good Behaviors vs Questionable Ones, & Pointed out his New Training Location...the Realization Occurred: Louie Did Very Well!

When working with YOUR Dog, who is navigating New Situations, it's CRUCIAL to Remember the Importance of Forgiveness—both for YOU & YOUR Dog! Mistakes WILL Happen! They're Part of the Process! Instead of Dwelling on what YOU Consider Failures, Recognize Progress & Learn from Each Experience! This Grace Allows YOUR Dog to Build Confidence While YOU Strengthen YOUR Own Handling Skills...Ensuring YOU Grow TOGETHER as a TEAM!

Always Celebrate YOUR Journey!

I want to Welcome Charlie & his Guardians to the Breathe & Relax Dog Training Family 👋🏻👋🏻!

Charlie is this Little Bundle of HIGH Energy Puppy that can QUICKLY Turn Into the Tasmanian Devil when his YOUNG Guardians are around! I Observed how his Response becomes More "Jacked Up" when the Younger Guardians are Active Compared to when he has a Leash on & is FOCUSED on Learning his Lessons.

Taking Time to Build a STRONG Training Foundation will be SO Important for Charlie...Especially with his BOUNDLESS Puppy Energy! Rushing Through the Process MIGHT Lead to Frustration for Both Charlie & his Guardians because he Thrives when he's Given Clear Guidance & Opportunities to Practice. By FOCUSING on the Basics & Creating a CONSISTENT Routine, his Guardians Can Help him SETTLE into a Learning Mindset, Even During his Moments of HIGH Excitement.

With Patience, Practice, & Plenty of Balanced Positive Reinforcement, YOUR Dog Can Begin to Understand what’s Expected! This makes Any FUTURE Lessons much Easier. Training is a Journey, NOT a Race! With the Right Foundation, YOUR Dog's Energy CAN be Channeled into Making BETTER Choices that EVERYONE will Appreciate.

This Cold Snap is a GREAT Opportunity to Try a Variety of Mental Enrichment Puzzles! After Busy Blankets, Bags & Boxes, it was Time to INCREASE the Difficulty!

I PREFER that Varekai & Māui eat from their bowls on a Raised Platform--to DECREASE the Risk of Bloat--so this Enrichment Activity will be used LESS often (unless I Freeze it Longer & Add Bone Broth). It Slowed Both of Them Down...but Only Slightly!

Am I Just ASKING for a Huge Mess...?

With the COLDER Temps rolling in, I’ve been Adding Extra Mental Challenges to keep "My Kids" Busy! Yes, I KNOW I have Huskies who were BRED to Handle the Cold—but I Was NOT! If Only I Could Hibernate through Winter... 🤔

Varekai caught on to her Enrichment Box QUICKLY, while Māui took JUST a LITTLE Longer to crack his Puzzle! 🧩🧩

Now, I Can't WAIT to see what happens when I Switch things up—Box for Bag, Bag for Box! Will Varekai be MORE Challenged by the Bag? Will Māui simply TEAR Up the Box?

It's a Very Good Read...

Short Story of the Day:

The Window

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.

And every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Days and weeks passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their bath only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the world outside. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it for himself.

He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you."

Epilogue... There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled. If you want to feel rich, just count all of the things you have that money can't buy.

"Today is a Gift, that's why it is called the present."
