Have you ever wanted to see which animals at the shelter needed help the most, but weren't sure where to look? MCACC uses an online webpage to help our special-needs animals find the positive outcomes they deserve: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/newhope/. It works just like our adoptable pets webpage, only it includes both adoptable animals as well as those not available to the public.
What do the categories mean?

👉 Urgent Medical/Behavior New Hope Only: Animals designated as New Hope Only (NHO) typically don't meet the criteria to be adoptable to the general public, but have the potential to improve with medical/behavioral interventions beyond what our shelter is able to provide. Our New Hope Partners (maricopa.gov/5827/New-Hope-Rescue-Partners) are often able to reassess these animals outside of the shelter environment, develop treatment plans, and provide additional adoption counseling and post-adoption support to help them live successful new lives.

👉 Urgent Medical: Animals with this designation require immediate medical attention, including advanced diagnostics or treatment, from an offsite veterinarian and/or specialist.

👉 Urgent Behavior: This designation highlights animals who are exhibiting deteriorating behaviors or have behaviors beyond what the scope of MCACC resources can manage, but show potential to be successful outside of the shelter environment. The dogs pictured here are all within this category, and are available to rescues as well as direct adopters.

👉 Medical: Animals in this category need medical attention and/or lifelong treatment, but in most cases have a good long-term prognosis and can be managed by an offsite veterinarian.

👉 Behavior: This designation highlights animals who need behavior intervention that is currently manageable at the shelter. Although these animals do not need urgent outlets, they would benefit from placement outside a shelter setting soon.
