Dear Cowgirl,

I hope you say yes to every adventure possible, and it scares you just enough to make you feel alive.

I hope you dance on every table and wish on every shooting star you see.

I hope you find a love that is old fashioned enough to last, doctor yearlings on dates, dance to Jake Ho**er at midnight and never want for wildflowers.

I hope you have excitement, authentic purpose, home cooked meals and good dogs.

And may you always ride nice horses. ©Adrianbbrannan

A horses natural or desired state for itself is to be at rest, like you they do not want to be under stress. If you can create a relaxing atmosphere while you ride the horse will follow suit. The hotter the horse the more you must relax in the saddle channel it's energy into a circle when the horse begins to slow down release the reins allow yourself to relax even more. then ride out quietly. do not worry how many times you are going in a circle or a figure 8, say to yourself, I like riding I'll just ride this out, have no emotions about it. If the horse comes to a stop, enjoy the moment together.

Been enjoying working with new horses lately, and my students. As I move I observe the actions or reactions of the horse, I don't want to just get it to do something, I want to understand it. The same thing happens with my students. Why did they say or do something? Was it fear based? Can we bring both rider and horse to a place where they can enjoy each other? I may be the teacher, but in a lot of it I am also the student, both of the horse and the creature, the human.

The way we train is from the horses point of view, try to look at their actions not as bad, but as them trying to convey their point of view. Work out from quite when you can. Re-direct flow of too much energy from your horse till the both of you are quite again. Reading your horses intentions, and being clear to the horse of your own can go along way.

When riding a horse, I have my students sit up straight, lift their heads, pull their shoulders back and look beautiful. When they walk beside their horse, they must pull their shoulders back lift their head and walk with purpose. And they look beautiful. So I tell them, if you look beautiful on or around a horse, you will always be right. Be beautiful people.

In this picture two horses are having a conversation, They are not being mean, or bad, but we are too frail a creature to get involved in this, we must keep our conversations with horses on the "down low" as much as possible. The good thing is, even a horse prefers tranquillity over nerve racking tension.

When working with your horse it's important to check your emotions and replace them with understanding.
