This month we recognize service dogs. We celebrate the work they do to help people with disabilities live more independently.

There are many ways you can support the organizations that train and support these dogs, including donations, volunteering, and spreading awareness.

Costs of living are on the rise, and pet care is no exception.

September is national pet insurance month, and we can't recommend this vital service enough. Whether you are looking for assistance with your pets' wellness and medication or coverage for hospitalization and illness, pet insurance can help ease the burden of cost.

Be sure to read the fine print when comparing companies and tailor coverage to meet your needs. For example, some policies do not provide coverage for cruciate injuries, a common condition in dogs often requiring surgical intervention.

If you are looking for pet insurance recommendations, call our office today!

There are many reasons a pet may experience pain, including an injury, arthritis, post-surgery, and cancer, to name a few. If your pet seems to be "slowing down," it could be due to chronic pain.

If you think your pet may be experiencing chronic pain or has suffered a painful injury, there are many options to provide relief, including medications, physical rehabilitation, and laser therapy.

Call today to have your pet evaluated by one of our veterinarians, or visit our website (www.brinkervet.com) to schedule an online appointment.

Every year, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center receives calls related to kids going back to school. Often, these calls involve pets getting into backpacks and lunchboxes.

Some common toxins include gum containing Xylitol, grapes/raisins, moldy food, ice packs, and medications. Plastic bags/chip bags can pose a suffocation hazard. While most school supplies are nontoxic, ingestion can lead to an obstruction or damage to your pet's intestinal tract from sharp objects.

We recommend setting up a designated area outside of your pets' reach for after-school belongings to be stored.

We wish everyone luck heading back this semester!
