🐾 Don't Let Ticks Crash Your Fall Adventures! 🍂
Hey Everett & Lake Stevens pet parents! As we soak up the gorgeous (and damp) PNW fall, it’s easy to think tick season is behind us. But these stubborn pests remain active right through autumn in our grassy parks, wooded trails, and even our own backyards!
Protecting your pet is a year-round commitment here in the Pacific Northwest. Here’s our simple 3-step strategy to keep your furry friends safe all season long:
1️⃣ PREVENT: Consistency is Key!
Don’t let your guard down just because summer is over. Monthly topical treatments, chewables, or collars prescribed by your vet are your first line of defense. These products don’t just kill ticks on contact—they often prevent them from latching on in the first place. Fun fact: Many of these products also protect against fleas and mites, making them a smart, multi-purpose investment!
2️⃣ INSPECT: Make “Tick Checks” a Ritual!
After every walk, hike, or even a romp in the yard, give your pet a thorough once-over. Ticks love to hide in warm, hidden spots. Be sure to check:
In and around the ears
Under the collar
Armpits and between back legs
Between the toes and around the paw pads
Pro tip: Run your fingers through their coat feeling for small bumps. A fine-tooth comb can also help catch hitchhikers early!
3️⃣ CONNECT: Keep Us In The Loop!
Found a tick? Don’t panic! Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp it as close to the skin as possible and pull straight out with steady pressure. Save the tick in a sealed bag or take a photo for identification, and let us know at your next appointment. If you’re unsure or your pet seems lethargic, loses appetite, or has joint stiffness, call us right away. Early detection of tick-borne illness is crucial!
Stay proactive, stay protected, and let’s make this autumn the best one yet! 🍁
