Dr. Brandon King, DVM, recently traveled to Tufts University to share his knowledge on equine podiatry, teaching veterinary students about the art and science of horseshoeing. One standout case focused on laminitis, a challenging hoof condition that requires a sharp eye and a deep understanding of equine biomechanics.
Through X-rays and careful evaluation, Brandon demonstrated how subtle changes in the hoof can reveal early signs of trouble—insights that make all the difference in treatment and prevention.
Here’s what Dr. King had to say about the experience:
“Going back to my vet school, where I built the foundation for my career, was an incredible experience. Teaching what I’ve learned in my niche of podiatry—both to students and the very same staff doctors who once taught me—was truly special. The students were all focused on large animal medicine and eager to dive deeper into the subject. After a morning lecture series, we put that knowledge into practice with a laminitic pony and a large horse in the afternoon. Seeing their enthusiasm and hands-on learning was a highlight, and I can’t wait to return next year to do it all again.”
A huge thank you to Tufts University for the opportunity—our team is excited for Dr. King to be back next year
